I have the VIP package from Virginmedia and have most of the digital channels switched on including Sky Movies and Sky Sports. As a family we don't watch all of the available channels and I do wonder why we have them all some times. However we have small children who enjoy Cbeebies and Nick Jr. My partner usually likes a selection of music channels throughout the afternoon. My TV viweing consists of Sky Moviees and Sky Sports for the football.

I would have to agree that I use the PVR all the time for series link recording so one I don't miss Shameless, Skins, Gavin & Stacey.

I think I would watch less TV without a PVR and thinking about it catchup tv on demand.

I haven't taken much notice of the channels we watch, but i know some of the channels don't get a look in on our TV. It probably is the same set of channels that get watched week in week out though.

I wonder if Virgin take note of which channels are viewed most and which don't get viewed much at all ?

We worked it out last night that out of our xl package we watch around 8 or so channels.....the rest are wasted on us.

I just wish that Sky or Virgin would introduce a system that lets you pick the channels you want and just pay for those instead of having the rest forced on you via a package.

Re: Out of 160 odd this is it!

The old Ondigital did things that way http://onhistory.co.uk/ondigital
Of the general channels, any 1, any 6 or all
Of course, originally, the Sky multi-channels were free with anything else.

Come to think of it, why ARE we paying for channels with adverts, and surely advertisers won't pay much for ads on a subscription only channel where programmes may score next to nothing (like one program that moved to (don't) "Watch").

Until 100% digital switchover, the old 5 channels still have the highest presence.
Next most important has to be Freeview, since most new TVs are equipped with freeview, it IS the system which succeeds analog, as with any luck, it's plug and go.

Re: Out of 160 odd this is it!

I probably only watch half a dozen channels but my kids watch the kiddies channels when they come to stay. They also watch music videos (which are free on XL) and I sometimes watch TV Choice on demand.
If I cut back to L I could save £8/ month. I wouldn't have all the channels my kids watch and they wouldn't be able to watch music videos. I would then have to pay £7/month for catchup TV and another £5/month for my V+ box.
Sure, I don't watch all the channels, but it's nice to know they are there if I want them.
I think Virgin should pay me but as that's unlikely to happen I think my £68 for TV, phone and 50Meg BB isn't such a bad deal. It's less than I used to pay for my ISDN line and 64k internet 10 years ago.

What's really annoying is we're paying for channels showing content we paid for via the license fee and having to endure adverts as well. In effect we're paying three times for the same content.
