Netgear WNR2000 Problem ?
Hi...
Just recently I had to reset my Router to factory defaults and re-install the firmware update..
But i've noticed something odd.. It's limiting my download speed to 5.90MB/s when I normally get 6.00MB/s.
I tried removing the router and connecting the PC direct to Modem, I get the full 6.00MB/s speed. Yet as soon as I use the router I get 5.90MB/s ceiling.
Does anyone know how ro remedy this?..
Also After extensive testing I've noticed that when using router supplied by Virgin I get a Massive drop in speed down to nothing and even lose connection sometimes when using Xbox LIve.. Yet this never happens with direct connection..
I can't do without the Router as it's sometimes shared with another pc at weekends.
Advice appreciated..

Awesome. I was waiting for a post like this to come along.
Obviously PowerUser is such a power user that the 100Kb/s he's lost is earth-shatteringly important

So wirelessly you are getting at least 48/50Mb and you are unhappy with that on an up to 50Mb connection.
The is no issue and you would be told as such if you called the support line.

Re: Netgear WNR2000 Problem ?
OK, Lets go through this slightly differently and answer some of your replies. Firstly my problem is NOT network issues. Which some of you are suggesting.
And the fact that it's the router that is artifcially affecting my cap limit is a big deal...
I'm not Using Wireless function on the router, Sorry I didn't mention it. It's hardwired ethernet..
The reason I suspect an issue with the router and NOT my broadband connection is because the speed and reliability is only becoming an issue using ther router..
So please can anyone shed some light on router issues.!

Re: Netgear WNR2000 Problem ?
I suspect the responses were caused by eyes glazing over when your first complaint wasn't losing connection but losing 1/60th of your download speed due to the router. That really isn't a big deal however you cut it.
Anyway onto the subject in hand. The VM router is cheap, buy a different one, it can have problems when heavily used through newsgroups or P2P.
If you have a problem with losing 100kB on a 6MB/s service I'd consider going to http://www.cisco.com or http://www.juniper.com with a fair amount of cash in your pocket.

AH HA,, great.. So.. it is mostly drops of connection I get using newsgroups and massive losses of speed. I've just experianced a drop to 180KB/s for 10 mins and had to reset Both modem and router again.
Just a matter of interest which router would you recommend

To the OP, do you really grasp how little an issue you have, not being funny in any way but your talking about such a small amount of loss, its not worth worrying about.
I agree with the big cheese that the router you have is made to a price, but it seems to be serving you quite well,
All I would say is if you fancy changing to a better router (like I did) then go for it, but I wouldn't expect to see a constant 6MB all the time even if you had the best router money could buy.
I have a Linksys WRT610N its a simultaneous dual band wireless N router and it seems pretty good so far.
