Great and what a mess! This can only be called a work around for a missconfigured so called POP3 service .... and nothing has changed?

Re: First computer to log in takes all e-mail?

Thanks again Moldova

I followed the instructions this morning and both computers received 30 days supply of e-mail!! Checked again this afternoon logging on both computers at different times and both received all the new mail with today's date.

Thank goodness for this forum or I would never have known how to correct the problem. Just have to hope now that the success wasn't just a one-off and it works every time from now on.

Have had to apologise to husband now as he uses the other computer and is continually updating and changing settings so he got blame for causing this problem.

Have just read the Virginmedia article mentioned above and noticed the bit about unticking the box 'using same settings for incoming and outgoing e-mail' so have had to reset the outgoing to the original username.

Re: First computer to log in takes all e-mail?

Just keep recent: in front of your email username if retrieving on multiple machines.

Re: First computer to log in takes all e-mail?

Please be advised not to use recent: mode, or just to set their correct username in the outgoing server settings for the present if still having issues with your smtp settings.

This authenication issue for smtp is being worked on.

Ignore my post above this one.

Authentication for the blueyonder smtp server was not required in the past nor is it required as of yet as long as one is on the Virginmedia network. This is true for most desktop machines that do not get carried around. Authentication becomes necessary if you post from a different network else the setup smtp server rejects posting as relaying is not supported.

This only affects you if you are having problems sending and is being worked on.

Hi first off thanks for all your efforts Moldova & Ben because without you I would be left pulling out what hair I have left out.

Now adding Recent: has enabled me to pull through emails using Windows Mail like I used to BUT I am now unable to send emails.

Initially the outgoing server had Recent in front but even now I have removed it I still cant send anything.

When I try to send an email a Windows Security window pops up with the following

Logon to pop3.blueyonder.co.uk
Please verify that both the username and password are correct for your mail server

No matter how many times you input your email address & password it asks you for it again & again.

I can send emails via Webmail but its hardly ideal.

From past posts I guess this is an issue Moldova is aware of ?

HELP

If you are having problems sending due to authentication of smtp you are advised to remove the recent: from your accounts as this is a issue that is being worked on at present.

We are awaiting a resolution as this is not affecting all customers.

OK

So you are saying remove recent completely ?

I just recivied an email which says the following:

How do I download mail to multiple POP email programs?[ Edited ] .Options
Mark Message as New
Flag for a moderator...09/10/09, 11:35 AM - last edited on 21/01/10, 05:28 PM

This applies to all users of Virgin Media Mail, the new email system that @virginmedia.com, @vigin.net and @blueyonder.co.uk have recently been migrated to.

To access your messages with multiple POP email programs across different machines, use recent mode in every client to make sure that all messages are made available, rather than only to the first client to access new mail. Recent mode fetches the last 30 days of mail, regardless of whether it's been sent to another POP client already.

To enable Recent mode, replace 'username@virginmedia.com' in the Username field of your POP client settings with 'recent:username@virginmedia.com' and ensure that the Leave messages on server option in your POP client is enabled.

You can read this and other help content for our new Virgin Media Mail service here - http://www.virginmedia.com/help/virg..._pop.php#99999

Thanks

Re: First computer to log in takes all e-mail?

You need to make sure the 'recent:' bit is only being used on the POP username. The SMTP username must only be your e-mail address.

Some e-mail programs like Outlook Express will try and use the same username for both servers

Thats what I thought I am using Windows Mail & even though I am now able to receive emails I cant send any because a message pops up saying the following

"Logon to pop3.blueyonder.co.uk
Please verify that both the username and password are correct for your mail server"

So I have gone from being able to pull through some of my emails on Windows Mail to getting them all but not being able to send anything. Only being able to send emails via "web-mail"

You have got the sending server as smtp.blueyonder.co.uk?

Re: First computer to log in takes all e-mail?

As a temporary fix to enable smtp authentication you will need to remove "recent:" and only download onto one mail client, this is a known issue for some prople and a fix is being worked on by our IT department.

You will still be able to see your emails in webmail on multiple machines for the time being.
