First computer to log in takes all e-mail?

We have 2 computers on a home network. We use one e-mail address and tick the 'keep copy on server' box so that mail comes in to both computers.

This has worked well since set up some time ago, but for approx. the last 4 days the first computer to log in receives the e-mail, but the other gets nothing. We don't use aliases or any other divisions.

I've checked that the keep copy boxes are ticked and when I log in to www.mail2web.com I can see the e-mails still on the server.

Any ideas on what could have gone wrong?

Can I add on a second query here, please.

To avoid this in future, I'm now thinking of setting up a new mailbox for the second computer. I've looked at Virgin Self-care and understand what to do. Query is: After setting up mailbox how do you allocate the mailbox to a specific computer?

Sorry if the answer is obvious but it's not to me!

Re: First computer to log in takes all e-mail?

Are you a @blueyonder.co.uk email account holder.

If so what you need to do is go to your account settings in your email client and choose the servers tab, then when you see the username box with for instance 'ab123c456' you change that to 'recent:ab123c456' on all machines that you want your mail to download onto.

Then click send/receive on your email client and you will receive all the mail saved on the server for the last 30 days on all enabled machines, this will only happen the once, after this all machines should be able to receive the same emails.

To clarify just put the word exactly as shown here recent: in front of your username in the server tab in account properties.

It may only work on the migrated platforms but no harm in trying, post back the result.

I think that is the answer, I know it worked for me but I have a migrated account, but we now know that it will probably work when NTL emails are migrated.

This seems to work. Perhaps you should clarify if RECENT: has to remain in front of usernames or can it be removed once synced because if I leave it in place, the SMPT server complains using the same credentials .........

We were only told to use it for pop3 not smtp though, so not sure why your machines are doing this as I did try it on my own machine and all it did was ask me to reconfirm the password..

I use thunderbird so probably thats why, we had an article about this and it only said the issue was with the pop3 side, if we get information about smtp issues then I will post it.

You have to leave it in place for the username on the POP login
