Re: Caller Display "No Longer Available" after port

Darn, seems like everyone's having the luck except me. Has anyone in the Eastleigh/Southampton (digital network) area 20 got it working yet?

Andy, have you phoned back yet, ask them what switch you are on and get them to check it again! - Keep us posted.

The lady I talked to had no knowledge of any imminent upgrade.

See my previous posts in this thread. I contacted the UK upgrade people last week, they said it would be activated in 24h for £2 per month. If only they knew what they were doing... but they didn't.

Over 24h later it hadn't been activated. I contacted Indian faults and they looked up my number and told me it wasn't available on my line, and cancelled the £2 charge for me. Thank goodness someone knows what they are doing.

Is it worth contacting them again so soon? I will do if I see any evidence that Southampton (the digital network, not the analogue one) or Eastleigh (same network) is being enabled. Or same time next month as I will be doing this regularly from now on. This is my thinking, but if you think there is evidence of things progressing more quickly I'll try sooner.

It's just suspicious that no-one from my area has commented on this thread yet. I assume that means no-one here is getting it yet. I hope we are on the schedule as well, but since we've been waiting about a decade for the promise of the central Southampton network being made digital (originally it was 'some time this year' but that was back in my student days...) I am used to thinking in cable time. I had to move to the outskirts to go digital on cable!

I just think Southampton isn't on their radar in Virgin HQ. We never have been. They may actually have forgotten we're here at all...

I have been following this thread with interest, I am in Brighton (Area 20) which is ex Nynex/C&W/ntl and have been waiting for Caller Display for Years, anyway after reading here I thought id give 150 a try, so I did.

The bloke at 150 went to check and said yes it is avalible in my area so I asked him to add it and he did, Later on I tried dialling *#234# and the message said "Callers identitys will be displayed" but nothing coming up on my phones or caller id boxes yet, do VM use the same standard for caller id as BT in this area?

Sorry didn't mean to say anyone had quoted the code, I actually knew the caller display control codes as they are the same on BT system x/y switches.

*234# switches it on
#234# switches it off
*#234# to check

So after ringing VM I tried *#234# to see if the service had been activated or not, previousley the message I got back was "sorry the service requested is not avalible from this line" but as I say after ringing VM it now reports "callers identitys will be displayed".

Thanks Ron,

Let us know if it works, it takes a short while to activate itself.

Re: Caller Display "No Longer Available" after port

As far as I'm aware those codes are unsupported by VM so I wouldn't trust them

As for Caller Display, no it's not always the same standard.

Although it looks like it's only enabled on one of the switches for the Brighton and Hove area at the moment
