I have to agree that I have found the Met Office forecasts to be wide of the mark frequently

does this mean that we will be getting the same weather as in New Zealand?

They can predict the weather just as much as I can from looking out the window.
and I don't use any expensive equipment.

It was quite funny recently whenever the met office said we should have snow we had none and when they said the area was going to be clear we got snow. I usually use the radical method of looking out my window to check the weather as forecasts are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

That's going to be one storm the met office definitely see coming.

I use metcheck.com don't know where they get their data from tho and they seem to be reasonably accurate.

Who else could they use though? The Met Office has a lot of clever staff and powerful equipment to forecast the weather even though it's obviously a difficult science. Who else has the infrastructure to do what the Met Office does?

How clever do you have to be to say "there is a 30% it'll be colder than average, a 20% chance it'll be warmer than average and a 50% chance of it being average". They need to get their act together, how about introducing a bit of performance related pay.

Anyone of a number of weather companies...It's a *huge* industry with a lot of big players.

After all, many international companies need accurate predictions of the weather to plan for future problems. Haulage companies, shipping lines.
Even our public transport companies pay for advance forcasts so they can plan the need for de-icer trains etc.
