File and printer sharing made easy- advice please

Hi,
Please can anybody advise; I have a PC with a Epson D92 printer attached by USB, which is running on windows XP, cable modem/Belkin router. I have a laptop running on windows 7, which I am in the process of setting up the wire less printing. I have done all the pings, firewall, can see the shared file on the laptop, all ok.

I have gone through the steps up to the point (as below) where you have to install the printer & drivers, quote:

"Double click on the computer that the printer is connected to. If this is the first time you have accessed the printer then windows will need to download the drivers from the host computer. This can take a few minutes to copy over. When you double click on the new printer the system will ask you if you want to install the printer on the local machine"

I am not sure because the PC with the printer attached in on XP drivers & the laptop is on Windows 7. I have found on Epsons website the windows 7 drivers for the D92.
Should I download the windows 7 drivers onto the laptop from the Epson website & then install the printer via the wizard? I have the XP drivers & Epson printer set up on a CD.

Regards & Thanks Sean

Download the drivers onto the laptop and install on there, you should still be able to tell it where the printer is on the driver setup

Another option is to get a print server. and connect it to a router.

You can get wireless print servers.

Re: File and printer sharing made easy- follow up

Hi,
Thanks everyone for all your help, excellent guides. I now have the wireless printing set up, we are really pleased. The one thing I do slightly different I disable the Mcafee firewall, rather than unistalling it. We don't do much printing, so disabling prior to printing works well for us.

Regards Sean

You could always enable the firewall to make an exception when printing then you will not need to disable the firewall at all. Just add the epson printing software to the firewall exceptions list.
