Ever wondered how you will find out something if your not told?
Our local council decided to move the bin collection day forward by one day (I can see the sense in that this Christmas week) but instead of the usual big sticker on the bin telling us that they have changed the day, they put a little footnote on the quarterly newsletter that there has been a change and when I phone up and ask "Why wasnt my bin emptied" they told me that there was an item in their newsletter stating the change in collection days.
So they expect me to read unsolicited crap that comes through my letterbox to find this out! (I wonder how long it will be before we are made to read all council correspondense that is delivered and provide detailed proof that we have read said items and if we dont we'll get a civil enforcement officer knock on the door issuing us with a fixed penalty of £80 for not reading the rubbish that I didnt ask to be pushed through my letterbox)
In actual fact it's more like a cost cutting exercise, as a by line in their gumph & crappy newsletter cost's a lot less than the stickers on the bin. (But obviously they wont admit that will they?)
I was told that the sticker (<notice what they are called) tend to fly away in the wind as they do not stick (but councils still put stickers on your bin if you put the wrong type of recyclable items in the recycle bin) or that when it rains it becomes unreadable due to the ink running.
A, They should wait for them to dry before putting them out in the rain
B, Dont they print the stickers on a "waterproof" plasticy coated paper which is impervious to even the harshest of British winters.
Bloody cheek of them I say.
So upon returning home I have a full bin and a 2 week wait till the next collection and still no idea how this new fangled thing called telepathy works. (Anybody with an inklin as to how this works pls contact me)
I have had to make a trip to the tip with the contents of my wheelie bin decanted into MANY fag paper thin “Heavy duty� (contradictory description I know) refuse sack’s so that I can have room in my bin to put my “NEW� household waste in.

Beds councils put it on a nice plastic style leaflet with a slotted hole in the top so it hung on the wheelie bin handles..

Yesterdays collection though was planned one day early but it didn't happen till today becasue of the snow They've also stopped collection garden waste for the next two weeks with extra recycling waste collections and a specific day for xmas trees

We have a weekly collection and I got a letter about 2 weeks ago saying that they would be round a day early this week.

We belong to Mansfield DC and what a bunch of no hopers they are, I was seething.

Our twin bin scheme is in it's second year, the first year they provided us with a calender to show which bin was being collected per week. This year we got sod all to tell us which is being collected

Everyone around here was used to the idea that following a Bank Holiday the bins would be collected a day late, then all of a sudden a one-off without any warning, they got the bin men to work overtime and they were collected on the usual day. (although most were not put out)

The refuse collection around here is about as reliable as the postman's mail delivery.

The binmen got 2 houses away from us yesterday, then called it a day. Normally an extra team would be sent out to finish the round, but it took an email to find that "Due to serious weather conditions, the round will now be done until Dec 29th".

The fact that they stopped gritting all but main routes and bus routes has nothing to do with it I thought, so emailed our councillors (who will ignore complaints 100%).

bet that cost leaflets cost a bit ,bet your poll tax is going up next year
we have a brown ,green and blue bin emptied on a fortnightly rotated system and it's really hard to keep up with with which one is getting emptied

I have come to be so incensed with the hap-hazard days of collection and changing of what needs to be where, when and how & people using my bin for their own rubbish etc (and being worried I'll eventually get punished for it), I now take ALL of our household refuse to the recycling tip myself. I've no idea where my three () bins are and care even less. Our neighbours seem to think all bins are communal..
I'd welcome the council that would give us reductions in our council tax based on the services we use. However, I imagine there's a snowman somewhere looking forward to spending some time in Hell who has the same expectations.

My council gives us a laminated leaflet in November to cover up to the next November which is posted through the letterbox.They also make it quite clear which days are different for the various public holidays including Christmas.As my collection day is Monday I usually end up putting my bin out on a Tuesday for Bank holidays.I guess my council are pretty good about this.

So Saturday was my day this year and I shan't hear the bin men again until Tuesday the 5th Jan.

You see, there are several major differences between that service and the service my own local authority give.


1) The council publish changes like this only on their website. No news letters, no leaflets. However, leaflets that hung on wheely bins would be pointless because

2) The council don't provide Wheely bins. If you buy your own, they will empty it, but they do actively discourage them.

3) The council will not officially take garden refuse. They will if you bury it in the other rubbish, and the bin men do not notice it. They've had a trial scheme running in two (I counted them, sad, I know) streets where they do collect garden refuse, but this trial has run for nearly two years now, with no apparent moves to expand the scheme or cancel it. Oh, and they count ANY organic waste (even food) as Garden waste.

As for xmas trees, they do provide facilities to dispose of them at the local dumps, but my nearest one is 3 miles away (I don't drive) and they won't collect them. Luckily I bought a good plastic tree a few years ago that is actually hard to tell from a real tree.

I used to be with them before I moved from Mansfield to Sutton. Now got Ashfield District Council who seem to do a bit better job. They sent use a whole new bin collection calendar for December in the post.

I did forget to check it though lol. And found my usual Tuesday was now a Monday DOH.

This week was the week for the recycling bins.

The normal day is Tuesday.

I checked the Cambridge City Council website on Monday evening, to see if the bins were still going to be collected on Tuesday, or if they'd been cancelled due to the snow.

The website said that the recycling collection was cancelled, and so I didn't bother to put the bins out for Tuesday.

So...come Tuesday morning... I awoke to the sound of the bin men emptying the recycling bins

lol dressing gown a slipper job with the bin men smirking at you been there

The thing is that every year my neighbours fail to READ the special arrangements and then put their bins out as usual and wonder why they aren't emptied.
