Didn't expect so many replies, such a wide range of opinions as well.
Would still like to hear from any Mac users out there. And can anybody enlighten me on my installation question?

The is nothing special about setting up a Mac on aVirginmedia connection, its just plug and play and whatever router you receive will work with a Mac.

Another long term user here .. been with Telewest/Virgin now for over 10 years .. and on the 20meg service for .. 3/4 years now?
Anyway, hardly any problems in that time , a couple of lost connections that were speedily sorted and high speeds all the time as far as I can tell!
I've also got the phone line which gets me the standard TV service for free .. I could probably phone up and re-negotiate a new conract, but I'm happy with what I've got for now!
I'd say go for it .. but maybe keep the BT line , coz if it's disconnected , BT will charge you £125 to reconnect it again if you ever change your mind.

Good call Oscar. I kept my BT line and put O2 ADSL2+ on in case VM ever went down (which it does rarely occasionally and I don't complain!). I'm a long way from the BT exchange but 1.5 Mbps is better than zilch.

I've just switched from BT to Virgin - Finally. Anywho, I ordered just the BB to start with. Moved in and the freeview didn't work. Not a strong enough signal apparently. Anywho, i'mdue to be installed on 14/12 - I rang sales not 3 days ago, wishing to add TV to my install date, after 15 minutes on the phone, I got the first two months for £30 (Rather than £40) and TV to be added to my install. Overall, I'm really happy with the service. Everything has been pretty easy. Just looking forward to my service

Well I am not in your area so cannot comment on performance locally, but i have been a VM customer for around 7 years, maybe longer cant remember and the service has just got better and better!
Now I am on 50Mb Broadband, V+ Box with XL TV package and Unlimited Telephone Calls and Im a very HAPPY CUSTOMER, the service is brilliant, and extremely good value for money.
Just look at that broadband speed!! The stuff dreams are made of
Overall 9/10
I would like some more HD channels tho

While I echo Rik's sentiments about my particular service, VM must surely be due the stick they're receiving for the misery being caused in areas they appear to be upgrading.
Stick not for the upgrading (if that's what they're doing), but for the lamentable PR and indeed change management processes, which appear to me to be "fundamentally broken" to echo the words of their own quality director in January 2009.

If you pre drill and have drawlines to pull the cable through, the engineer will think that he is in heaven.
A plate of biscuits and a cup of tea and it will be sorted.
I pre prepared my house and got my modem exactly where I wanted.
