It's been announced that the running of Tyne and Wear's metro system is to be taken over by Deutsche Bahn, who, with traditional thoroughness, will include it as part of their regional operations. I for one welcome our new Teutonic overlords.
Without the snark, DB now run:
* the UK's largest freight operator DB Schenker
* Half of London Overground (the Chinese run the other half)
* Chiltern Railways
* Wrexham and Shropshire Railways
* Tyne and Wear Metro
Other bits of our transport system are run by the Dutch and French rail companies, incidentally. Mind you, our bus companies run trains all over Europe these days, so it's not one way traffic...
