The Uzbekistan/Bahrain example is only different in the type of mistake by the referee(s). It's essentially the same scenario - a mistake made which may well have changed the outcome of the tie.

Loads of mistakes could affect the outcome of a game. I don't care what some in the press say, France should have had the penalty, and the only reason it's being denied is because it takes away from the outrage some wish to express at the result. The same reason the press neglect to mention Keane controlling the ball with this hand earlier in the match (albeit getting caught, unlike Henry).
We have replays for 'big games' then both teams will always look at every single incident in a game looking for grounds to call a replay. That was a dive, rematch! That wasn't a free kick, rematch! He was offside, rematch!
Then you have the problem of what counts as a big game? All cup matches? A regulation battle in the league? Every World Cup game?
The only time I would think this should even be considered is for systematic poor referring throughout the game, as was the case for the Chelsea vs Barcelona Champions League Semi-Final.
A result needs to be final in all but the most outrageous incidents. This was not that, this was a handball leading to a goal. It was not systematic cheating or poor referring. Ireland did not have the game 'in the bag' as is being reported, they were under pressure for a while before the goal. So as unfair as it was, it's not as if it's was a cert they were to go though.

Wonder if Ireland would be happy for this match to be replayed:

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
I hope it all goes well for SA
In the mean time Liverppol v ManCity is just about to kick off, hopefully should be an interesting game as both Liverpool and City need to start winning to be seriously considered as Premiership contenders

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
I'd expect the same if the situation was reversed

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
Things get interesting up in Scotland.
After years of the old firm being out of sight by Xmas there is only three points between the top four teams thanks to another exceptional display of crapness from Mowbrays muppets.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
Is that a record???
---------- Post added at 17:04 ---------- Previous post was at 17:02 ----------
Closest I could find was
Quote:
Andy Cole was the first player to score five goals in a Premiership match, for Manchester United vs. Ipswich in the 1994/95 season. The final score was 9-0, which is also a Premiership record for the biggest victory/defeat
