IP address change

I used to be able to change my ip address (virgin media) using the method found on this page:
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/94...p-address.html

But this does not seem to work anymore and i am stuck with the same ip

Any help would be gladly appreciated

Thank you

Re: IP address change

Change the MAC address on your router and reboot your modem and router.

I've done it a few times already today trying to get an IP cam working.

May I ask what router you are using?

I don't seem to be able to do this on my router (Philips SNB5600)

Also, I thought to be able to change the ip adress you would have to connect directly to the modem instead of the router.

Thanks for your advice Reedy

Re: IP address change

You could always just use something like TMAC.

Quote:
Technitium MAC Address Changer allows you to change Media Access Control (MAC) Address of your Network Interface Card (NIC) irrespective to your NIC manufacturer or its driver. It has a very simple user interface and provides ample information regarding each NIC in the machine. Every NIC has a MAC address hard coded in its circuit by the manufacturer. This hard coded MAC address is used by windows drivers to access Ethernet Network (LAN). This tool can set a new MAC address to your NIC, bypassing the original hard coded MAC address. Technitium MAC Address Changer is a must tool in every security professionals tool box.
Which in turn will change your IP.

I have never had any issues with it, little tip though, when you press the change mac button, input your current mac and only change the last digit.

Re: IP address change

In the clone mac address (page 10 of the manual), change the MAC by 1 digit and reboot everything.

Do NOT change you mac more than 4 times or you'll be locked out. apparently.

Re: IP address change

Thank you very VERY much Reedy. That method worked.

Just one thing though; are you saying I can only do this 4 times.

I looked for this part in the philips router guide but couldn't find it.

Re: IP address change

Something to do with VM only allowing you to do it 4 times .. I remember a long time ago getting barred until the following day for doing it too many times.

I don't know if it's still 4 times, I'm not going to test it out again.

I was trying to get my IP Camera working, but I forgot the port forwarding and decided for some unknown reason the IP address was the problem, But I was VERY hungover!
