V+ Possible Problem

Hey Folks, first time poster so be gentle if this is an idiotic qusetion! Just got V+ installed on Saturday (had the normal box for 12 months and upgraded) and it is brilliance in a box, but the only small problem is the constant little annoying noise like it is constantly loading! Is this normal and I'm just being picky?

Re: V+ Possible Problem

its the hard drive and can be quite noisey. Try lifting the front of the box and see if that makes a difference I had mine raised on a few little rolls of rubber matting and that helped somewhat

Remember in live tv mode the machine is writing to disc so you can do the live rewind etc

Re: V+ Possible Problem

It's normal for the later Scientific Atlanta V+ boxes to be a little noisy and rattly. I believe they inadvertantly changed manufacturer for the the HDD in the box to one thats quite loud. It's perfectly normal, not all are whisper quiet as they're mechanical devices. The hard drive(s) in your PC are largely soundproofed by the case but the V+ drive is right on top below the vents (grab a torch and look on the right hand side, you can see the bottom of the drive) so a lot of the noise is audible.

The fact that it's always recording the channel you're watching so you can rewind live TV means it's always busy doing something.

Some people have complained and managed to get a box swap to one with a quieter drive or a new Samsung unit but it's hit and miss and there's no guarantee what you could recieve as a replacement. I've learned to live with it to be honest.

Thanks pigpen, used to the sounds now was just unaware if it was meant to be like that or if something was up, and I was probably just being picky!
