Receive but not send emails.

If anybody could help with this one I would be grateful. My daughter has just left home to start uni. She has always used windows Mail on her Vista laptop to send/receive email via a pop3 account. Now that she is logged into the university's network she can receive but not send emails via this account. She can however both send and receive by using the internet via virginmedia.com.
Is the not being able to send via the pop3 account something to do with her connecting through a different network, and if so is it possible to perhaps alter any of the account settings to make it work?
Thanks.

Got it in one. Currently, you can only SEND emails via VM from a VM connection. Your daughter needs to change the SMTP server in her account settings to that of the ISP she is connecting via.

That sounds logical, so she would still be able to receive as now, but she would also be able to send and the messages would still show as coming from the @ntlworld.com address, is that correct?

Re: Receive but not send emails.

That's right, except I'm not 100% sure whether they would still show as coming from @ntlworld.com Maybe someone else could answer that, or she could try playing with the settings under 'e-mail address; and 'reply address' (in Windows Live Mail - I suspect the same are present in Windows Mail).

I'll get her to try that, thanks very much for the prompt response.

Re: Receive but not send emails.

Why not just use Virginmedia Webmail as that is available on any machine virtually anywhere.

http://webmail.ntlworld.com/ or https://webmail.blueyonder.co.uk/ use whichever link is yours.

But it does work and thats why I posted the links.

I only use webmail when I have to, which makes it quite convenient.
