Cannot upload to ntlworld webspace

Hi

I have not been able to upload to my webspace for a week. I can log in absolutely fine so it is not a login error. I use Terrapin ftp uploader and it has worked perfectly for 4 years.
Keep getting error 505
Spoke to an IT guy at virginmedia and he says its a problem for many users and there is no fix time on it at the moment!!!!
Anyone on here know anything about this issue and whether or not it is likely to be resolved soon?

No help from call centre.

Re: Cannot upload to ntlworld webspace

Not been able to change my webspace for over a year now, but noticed this today,,

* Please note that you cannot use a username with a dot in it for your webspace homepage. If your main username has a dot, you can visit My Virgin Media, set up a new household account without a dot in it, and associate that username with your webspace.

Does this mean I have to lose the email address I've had for years just to use my webspace?

Re: Cannot upload to ntlworld webspace

505 is a permission error - I.e wrong username and or password -

Do you have an FTP logs?

Re: Cannot upload to ntlworld webspace

I've had thise several times, coincidentally after something has been done by Virgin in the house ! If like me you haven't changed any settings since it used to work (I have an automated upload every 30 secs) the you need to make this quite clear to Virgin Support. Basically, they have a problem with security on one or more of their servers.

Also, as you can see from my homepage below, there is a dot in my username !

Its very likely you are being blocked by the server, if you are uploading every 30 second, the FTP server won't like that and seem it as some form of attack and thus block your IP on a x Period. However, this is automated and VM frontline techs may not have access to "unblock" you. Personally, dont upload so much and give it 24 hours.

Aswell, for the sake of £3.00 a month, get "real" hosting especially as your website seems to be for business.

Sorry WC, not true. Upload (a small jpg) has worked fine for nearly 2 years and is not for business. As I said, it was clealy due to Virgin engineers as lock out occurred at precisely same time. You have to insist its not you though. I can ftp using different software from different PCs. It takes some persuading though !
