Re: will virign do what sky and bt have with 0845 and 0870

Virgin have had phone plans that include 0845/0870, along with mobiles and international calls for at least the last two years

It's called Talk Anywhere

That isn't a mobile plan. Talk Anywhere is landline call plan

Re: will virign do what sky and bt have with 0845 and 0870

You can set up an account with 18185 then dial their freephone number.

Calls from Virgin to 0845 and 0870 are 9.79p per min 24/7 (October 2009 price list)

Calls from Virgin via 18185 are:
0845 3p per min 24/7
0870 weekdays: 5p per min
0870 weekends: 1p per min

calls from Virgin with Talk mobile are:
10.50p per min daytime (not inc 3 network)
7.22 p per min evening (not inc 3 network)

18.37 p per min 3 network daytime
13.78p per min evening

The same calls from Virgin via 18185
10p per min weekdays (all mobile networks, so slightly cheaper in the day, more expensive at night unless your calling 3 network when 18185 is always cheaper)
4p per min weekends (all mobile networks)

The thing with the Talk Anywhere plan is that it's not like the services offered by BT etc. With Talk Anywhere (unless I misunderstand it) you are buying a set amount of mins to use on any network.

Whereas with say BT, you can have their unlimited airtime plan and make no end of free calls to geographical numbers and still get the free 0845 and 0870.

Or to put it another way, BT unlimited anytime plan costs an extra £4.95 on top of your line rental.

Virgins lowest talk anywhere package is £9 on top of line rental and for that you get just 200 minutes.

So you get 3hrs and 20 mins of landline calls with Virgin for £9 (or could use them for mobiles etc) yet with BT for £4.25, you could make 3 hrs of calls a day (just to landlines) and still get free 0870 and 0845 calls.

So I don't really see Talk Anywhere being a cost effective way of someone wanting cheap 0870 and 0845 calls when the customer also makes loads of landline calls a month? Or am I missing something?

They are free as part of your inclusive call package - if you're on sky talk.

Correction - its 0844 and 0870 which are free in the packages.

From Sky's website:

UK calls are to 01, 02, 03 & 0870 numbers only (excludes calls to Channel Islands, indirect access numbers, dial-up Internet access and 070 numbers)

Not quite right, 0845 is 6.45ppm.

But, to make a fair comparison, one has to take the difference for the upgrade, rather than the costs of the basic services. It only cost an extra one pound and five pence from XL to Talk Anywhere 200, but it is a whopping eight pounds a month difference, to the four hundred minutes package.

Which is a bit odd really, seeing as 0870 is more expensive than 0845.

0845 and 0870 are changing soon so the free deal from bt is the 12 month scam we got u . locked in for 12 months.
