				Wireless routing with Virgin Media

I am trying to set up a Belkin wireless router connected to my Virgin Broadband modem. I ahve followed all the instructions, but cannot access the Internet with it installed. I have changed all the IP addresses, Default Gateway, Subnet Mask and DNS Servers as well as cloning my MAC code, however I am still getting the message unable to connect!
 Any ideas?

You shoudn't need to do that. If you have a modem all you should need to do is
 1) Turn the modem off

 2) Plug the router into the modem

 3) Turn the modem on

 4) Turn the router on

 5) Set the router to use DHCP/Dynamic/Automatic settings

 6) You will be connected

This is what I did originally, and when it didn't work, I then changed the settings. The shop assistant did say that Virgin media does need to have MAC cloned to enable it to work and this was a Virgin media only problem. The router is showing an Internet connection because the light is on constantly, however the Virgin modem is not sending or receiving data when I try to access the internet and I am getting the error message appearing.

MAC cloning isn't needed anymore - that was only an issue when it was Broadband through the back of the TV STB

The modem is wired to the router, the PC is wired to the router. When it is just PC -> modem it works, when I add the router in, the "Not able to connect to the Internet" message appears.

It is a wireless router, but that will be more for other things rather than the main PC.

 It's just frustrating really!

			OK, things to check.
 1) When you add the router in are you following:-

 a) power everything off
 b) power on the modem - wait until lights settle
 c) power on router - wait till lights settle
 d) power on PC

 2) Is the PC network connection set to 'obtain IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server automatically? (I suspect yes, as you can connect directly via the modem).

 3) Open a command box and type

 ipconfig/all

Amongst other things, this should show your IP address and default gateway. Both should start with 192.168.

I do all of that and I have tried the ipconfig route, however, my IP address starts 94.168!
Could this be part of the problem?

You said in post 1 that you'd changed the IP settings on the router. Might be best to reset the router to factory settings (should be a pin-hole reset somewhere). The router IP normally defaults to 192.168.xx.xx (the xx.xx depends on model), and the PC then gets an IP address of 192.168.xx.yy. Sounds like either you've changed the router address to 94.168.xx.xx (and possibly changed other settings to give the problem), or you've set a static IP address on the PC.
Also, what model router is it?

I'll try this then. Thank you, the router is a Belkin G Wireless router - F5D7234 -4 v3. It definitely says for Cable.

Default IP address for that is 192.168.2.1, so your PC SHOULD pick up an IP such as
 192.168.2.2

Also, once it's all working, make sure you set up security on the wireless!
