Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
In a drunken state last night I noticed this thread and went to the VM website to register for the 2 - 10 mb upgrade (not available yet in Nottingham where I live but apparently the modem can cope).
Stupid thing to do really seeing as I'm on one of the "lifetime" packages that VM agreed when they lost Sky Basics. Can anyone in a similar situation or with insider knowledge confirm or otherwise whether this will affect this deal?
I really don't want to change the package I'm on as I'm happy with the price and the service I get and have been a bit of a silly billy (as Dennis Healey might have described it).

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
It shouldn't matter what discount you have. The BB M 2 - 10Mbit upgrade should not affect them.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Thanks Ben. I don't like that "should" word though. I've been with NTL/VM since they first came into the internet market (oh how long I waited for that dialup CD) and know that they can be a little errr, unpredictable. But of course lovable none the less.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
The only reason I say should is that some customers in Area IDs 30/31 (and sometimes in Areas 20-28 as well) ended up with some rather interesting discount combinations which should not be on the account.
So *sometimes* any change on the system will force the incompatible discounts to be removed.
I'm not saying you have as I don't know what discounts you recieve but until the cleanup of those Area IDs is complete it's not a definate unfortunately
Customers in Area 01-18 are always fine

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Hi Guys, Just done some speed tests and got this:
BUT on this site ( http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/history/)
I got these:
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 12:55 5814 kbps (727kB/s) 482 kbps (60.3kB/s)
Today 12:49 3707 kbps (463kB/s) 483 kbps (60.4kB/s)
Today 12:46 2960 kbps (370kB/s) 482 kbps (60.3kB/s)
Today 12:46 2646 kbps (331kB/s) 479 kbps (59.9kB/s)
Today 12:45 3022 kbps (378kB/s) 484 kbps (60.5kB/s)
Today 12:44 4929 kbps (616kB/s) 484 kbps (60.5kB/s)
Today 12:44 3230 kbps (404kB/s) 484 kbps (60.5kB/s)
Today 12:30 11762 kbps (1.47MB/s) 461 kbps (57.6kB/s)
So the question is " Have I been upgraded to 10 megs ?"

The answer is "Yes,but..."
The upload speed is about right for the 10 Mb/s service but your download speed is low and varying. This might not be VM's fault. I believe one common cause of failing to get 10Mb/s download is problems with a wireless router.

Hi bud, just been on the phone to 151, the guy I was talking to did some tests & he said he will send me a new modem in a couple of days !
I just hope that will sort my problem out.
I'll post beck when it comes & I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks for your help.
Mike.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Right im a little confused, I registered for this upgrade a good month or two ago and i live in the Whitchurch Area yet im still running on a 2Mb config file. The time table does state my area has been completed. I have reset my modem before someone asks
Any idea what is going on?
Also does this mean anything?

The config file just means that the software didn't need updating on the modem cause the one available is the same as the one that's already on the modem. If you haven't been upgraded then ring CS and they'll send the signal to your modem.
