Wireless Access Point + USB Mini Adaptor & Virgin Cable Modem
Hi all,
I'm having problems setting wireless access to the internet and was hoping if anyone could help.
I have the following:
D-Link Wireless Access Point: DAP-1353
D-Link USB Mini Adaptor: DWA-140
Virgin Cable Modem: Ambit 250/255
I'm able to get the connection between the Wireless Access Point and the Mini Adaptor (i.e Status: Connected Signal: Very Good)
However, there seems to be a communication issue between the modem and the Wireless Access Point. I cannot connect to the internet.
I've put the DNS IPs as:
Primary: 194.168.4.100
Secondary: 194.168.8.100
My setup is ex NTL based, does this make a difference to the DNS?
Any ideas what the problem could be?
Many thanks for any help/ advice!

Virgin use dynamic IP's so setting statics may not work.

Thanks Moldova,
Excuse me if I'm being a bit dull, but that basically means I should leave the primary and secondary DNS IPs blank then?

It should be set to get an IP address automatically and get a DNS address automatically if you have that option on the router as you would have with your network card.
If I am wrong then anyone else feel free to correct me as I am not a wireless guru.

Re: Wireless Access Point + USB Mini Adaptor & Virgin Cable Modem
Hello Moldova,
I tried what you suggested. No dice.
There is no router, just the modem (with no options), bridge and the NIC.
I put the NIC to automatic DNS. didn't work.
I can't put the NIC to automatic IP as this stops the card being recognised by the bridge.
Any other suggestions sir?

As I said I am not a wireless guru so you will have to see if one of the other guys on here offer advice.
The advice I gave worked for me.

Hi Berty,
What IP address do you have when you do ipconfig from command line prompt?
Once the router is in place that is.

Re: Wireless Access Point + USB Mini Adaptor & Virgin Cable Modem
Thanks for trying Moldova.
Hello xocemp,
I've got the modem linked to pc via LAN at the moment:
IP = MOD EDIT: Not a good idea to post your IP address.
Default Gateway = 82.12.178.1
DHCP Server = 62.254.35.133
DNS Servers = 194.168.4.100
194.168.8.100
These settings work for the LAN connection to the modem.
(Bridge not included in this setup)
