It's not a choice by Virgin.
From what I gather ESPN are going to be showing American sport on ESPN UK until they can run both channels alongside each other on all platforms. It'd be pretty strange of them to run both channels on Virgin whilst they'd be showing the same content on both channels at times until they can get ESPNA back on Sky.

I refer you to the previous link:

I.e. they will still be showing the baseball on the ESPN channel instead of ESPN america. What happens once ESPN america comes back is another matter, more baseball repeats on that and more football repeats in ESPN I would guess.

ESPN have only had a very limited amount of time to organise this new channel and with limited content at the moment to fill the channel it was clearly decided to just use their existing channel and to fit the American content around the newly acquired football rights.
ESPN did not know if they were going to be able to agree new deals with Sky and Virgin and so probably went with ESPN America as it was available on Sky and Virgin - worst case scenario they continue with their existing agreements and just add new content to the current ESPN America channel with a few tweaks.
I would have thought launching a new channel (even for such a large company like Sky and ESPN) takes a fair amount of time organise.
- Organising and recruiting employees, presenters, technical, directors etc
- Acquiring content
- Agreeing deals with Virgin, Sky and other providers
- Setting up the uplink to those providers
- Marketing new channel to customers
- loads more I imagine

Same here.
I have to press HOME 1 9 5 to get the HD channel list. There must be a quicker option other than storing them in favs.

To view HD you need a V+ Box and a HD TV connected to it via the HDMI connector.
Even if you have the XL package, as I do, they will be greyed out if you do not have the appropriate hardware to view them.
The HD channels (inc. BBC HD) will show on a V Box but greyed out just like any other unsubscribed channel.
Some viewers, such as Media Boy and ex-TW customers, are having difficulty but that seems to be a more specific problem.
I tried to watch a 40th anniversary moon landing programme a couple of weeks ago and got a 1202 error - the same as the 1202 program alarm they got on Apollo 11. Spooky!

im xtw and i have all the channels fine

How about Virgin 1 Player? It's on the Catch Up TV on Demand menu but there's nothing to show. It doesn't appear to be listed in your Page 1 information.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
I totally unstead the time and effort it takes to start a new sports channel, Why I like ESPN Amercia is they repeat the Baseball game during the day skipping the adds in between innings it used up less space on the hard drive when recordering. The new ESPN I expect will be show football during the day and live Baseball throught the night.
