I'm slightly disapointed with the BBC's coverage today, seemed choppy and left with a "we think" somebody is on pole. Grrr

^ how were the BBC supposed to know when the teams / drivers didn't know? They didn't appear to have much choice due to the overrunning of their slot and having another live event on afterwards.
Picture of massa after the accient: http://img.mtv3.fi/mn_kuvat/mtv3/urh...009/755343.jpg - looks like a rather big hit by whatever suspension part it was. He's not racing tomorrow either.

Luckily it didn't go all the way through his visor and the helmet took most of the impact judging by that picture.
More on Massas condition here.
Quote:
Felipe Massa will need to undergo surgery after it emerged he has suffered bone damage of his skull and a brain concussion in his accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Brazilian will be forced to miss the race after he was hit in the head by debris believed to belong to Rubens Barrichello's car.

"Following a complete medical examination it emerged that he had suffered a cut on his forehead, a bone damage of his skull and a brain concussion. These conditions need to be operated on after which he will remain under observation in intensive care."

I have managed to freeze frame the object and it is a rear coiled suspension spring, a nasty piece of suspension.

Not surprised Sky it's exaggerating things though.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Such a freak accident its hard to beleive, Barichello looses the spring and 4 seconds later the spring still having some bounce hits Massa. Just like Surtees accident last week totally freakish.
Massa is in a drug enduced coma following successful surgery and they are hoping to bring him round tomorrow.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
The spring hit the front left-hand side of Massa's helmet when he was travelling at
Quote:
162mph. Although it is believed the 28-year-old was unconscious after being struck, his foot was on the brakes before he hit the barrier at Turn Four, at which point he had slowed to 62mph.
Insiders believe Massa's life may have been saved by the latest generation of carbon-fibre helmets, which were introduced four years ago and are approximately twice as strong as their predecessors.
