I'd rather have swine flu than norovirus again. Although saying that, Anton is asthmatic, so I'd have to hope that he wouldn't get it.

Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu

ok we're going live tomorrow, if you need to call do not use a pay as you go phone as we cannot call you back under any circumstances even if you run out of credit. Also if the call drops and you ring back you'll have to start the questions all over again.

Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu

This is totally getting out of hand in work. We've been told today that all non-essential services (ours being one of them) are to come to a halt while all staff will have to take turns on a rota to man the anti-viral clinics. We have over 100 staff in the health improvement team and we're all being rota'd in for our hours on a 7 day week, 8am to 8pm clinic rota.

Well when our target is missed because of pulling the whole team out and shutting down the service - i hope they remember that. Service reputation is hard to build up and its not something you can get back overnight. Sorry, rant over.

Haha.

Personally I don't think that phone diagnosis ever really works, but hey, if it lightens the strain on other areas it is going to work. Even so, I don't really believe the number of cases - some people might not have it but because they're not swabbing and have a bad cold, which is possible in summer, then they're being told they have flu, etc. As for tamiflu-resistance...

Plus there's always the problem of saying it is flu when in reality it is something more serious - meningitis, for example. If possible, cases should be followed up if there is a possibility it could be something else.

As for the sending a "flu friend", who is likely a close contact of someone who has an infectious virus (so may well be infectious and not have symptoms) out to collect something... it should be delivered.

The person/people doing the delivery would be at risk of spreading it even further.

Not if they just dropped it through the mailbox... Admittedly, if they actually had contact with them, then yes.

I'm also thinking a lot of people are losing perspective - it's flu. Just a new strain.

Thats what they were doing, but there are too many cases now.

And i agree totally, its just flu and we'll probably all get it and get over it as quick as it came. Those who are higher risk (pregnant women, children, older people and those with other health conditions) are the ones who should be high priority for NHS services.
