The price reduction on the 1st of September is to celebrate the the completion of the upgrade by then, thats why the price has been reduced from that date.

Re: 50Mb areas

I think his confusion was more the headlines which totally contradict the body of the release.

Quote:
# UK’s first high-speed network complete
# New 50Mb pricing now below £30
# Virgin Media trials higher upstream speeds
I guess the PR team felt so horny they just couldn't keep the release until it was actually true, given that this 'now below 30GBP' pricing isn't going to be 'now' for another more than 6 weeks, and the network isn't actually complete though this is a VM press release and it's best not to let facts interfere with the flow of BS from any PR department

Hi, first time poster.

Sorry to quote such an old post (page 53), but I have a problem...

See, apparently, Gillingham was upgraded quite a while ago. I just phoned up to get 50MB installed and they told me that it wasn't available in my area. I live above a shop on Gillingham high street.

I checked their postcode checker and my address isn't in there, but several of my neighbours are. They all say that 50MB is available, so I quote the guy on the phone one of the addresses.

Guy: "Oh yes sir, I see... but 50MB isn't available to them either"
me: "But it says it is!?"
Guy: "yes, but not every house has had the... uh... cables upgraded you see. One may be able to get it, the next won't".

What should do? Phone back later and see if I can get someone more competent? Which one is lying to me?

Like I say, My address isn't on the list, but the shop that I live above is, and it says that only national services are available - I have the VIP package, so I'm definately not only reduced to National services.

I am so annoyed right now!

*EDIT*

I just phoned up again, and it seems that the people a few doors down either side of me can get it, but I can't. What the hell is up with that!?!!

Re: 50Mb areas

Anyone got any info on how I can get my address added to the list on the postcode checker (I've clicked the link and filled in the info about 4 times now over the past couple of years and it never gets added), and also how I can find out why people either side of me can get 50MB, but I can't.

It's infuriating to say the least!

Re: 50Mb areas

At least by the time Nottingham (Bingham) gets it it will be at the cheaper price! Can't be many places left to sort now?

Still waiting for Ipswich to be done, but as you say it'll be cheaper by the time it gets here.

Re: 50Mb areas

According to the Virgin website 50Mb is now available in Ipswich.
I'll probably hold off for a bit.
