'Slow lane' for copyright thieves
Quote:

The government has all but ruled out using a "three strikes" law to tackle persistent net pirates.
|

Cutting people off was not the government's "preferred option", said culture secretary Andy Burnham in a music industry conference keynote.
|
Quote:
|
"What Mr Burnham also said was there was the likelihood that the MoU would be backed up by new powers for Ofcom to impose 'technical solutions' for repeat offenders if that process of sending out letters was not effective enough," added the spokesman.
|
Technical solutions?What would those be.

Re: 'Slow lane' for copyright thieves
Point of information, OP - copyright infringement is not theft. There is no such thing as copyright theft. You can't 'steal' someone's copyright by copying their intellectual property, because after you have copied it they are still in possession of the original - i.e. no theft has taken place.

Not my choice of title but it does convey what the situation is really all about.

Re: 'Slow lane' for copyright thieves
no offence maggy but hasn't this subject been done to death in at least 2 other threads?
but since i'm hear ..i don't believe the gov can or should do anything, they can't force the ip's to monitor net traffic in that detail without a long drawn out court case the ip's have already said that they don't feel it's their responsibility to police individual users
it's no good either the (as has been stated by a number of posters in other threads)that file sharing is here to stay, pandoras box is open and it won't be easy to close

Yes it is 'different' because of the nebulous air fairy reference to technical solutions so I ask again what are they?Or is it a total fabrication?

I am no computer genius (my brother is)but from what i understand the ip's don't have any software that can track each individual user and his online downloads all of the time .
Another question that this brings to mind is ,if the ip's did develope and use such software would it be legal?

This is why I was asking..I was hoping to get some clarification as to what they are thinking can be done to deal with individuals 'technically'.

personnaly maggie i don't think the isp's want to get involved at
all after all it would be tantamount to shooting yourself in the foot
just got an email back from my bro,i asked your question, his response was ,although there is tech available to track a specific users internet movements i.e terror suspects ect the software and hardware required to do this on a worldwide scale is unfeasable at this time
