Which modems are they sending out right now for the 2 to 10meg upgraders? and should I call them tomorrow and request this quick start modem kit you mention, or will I really need this as I have a stand alone modem and will only be replacing the modem, unless there is a special tool for removing the end of the coax cable that appears to be screwed in.

You will just get a modem which will have a plastic spanner included with it and it will be an Ambit 256 as that is the only modem supplied to all customers apart from 50Mb.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
I'm hoping that my speeds will increase when I get my new modem, I may also upgrade to 20MB. When I was on the phone to them before they said I could upgrade for £1.50 less a month.

If as many people have said the coax can be unscrewed and removed with your fingers, I take it they send this spanner for this purpose?
So when I get this new modem it will incorporate a spanner, I wouldn't have thought it being plastic would be much good.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
The reason it is plastic means that when you use it to tighten the connector you can't do it too tightly - which you can with a metal spanner - as it will slip when it gets the right tightness

And these spanners do come with these modems that they are sending out, that is for sure, yeah?

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
That's strange, maybe it's something to do with what datacentre we're both accessing, I do not know though, I'd like to know too, curious now haha.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Heres the 2nd official link
https://my.virginmedia.com/dashboard/speedupgrade
It actually tells you to register for your speed increase from 2Mb to 10Mb if you want to in My Virgin Media now

Good news - you've already registered for your broadband upgrade! Why not check out all the other great stuff in My Virgin Media.
So at least I know I registered correctly.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Bit perturbed to get an email re the upgrade with a link for me to enter my username/password - bad form for VM with all these phishing emails going around.
Also registration doesn't seem to actually do anything apart from tell you that 'your area will be upgraded in the next couple of months' - I already knew that.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Just a question I have because of the VM customers services insistence on a new 12 month contract. Do they get a commission for getting you to renew the contract (I know lots of Mobile phone companies reward telephone staff if they get you to say yes to a new contract).?

But it's not a new contract is it?
