to Cable Forum

I'm assuming you are trying to wire an extension from the existing master socket? Or are you trying to do something with the master socket itself. Strictly speaking any wiring on the street side and up to the master socket should only be touched by the telephone company.

Most wiring for phones is dealt with by a IDC type push down tool. Very cheap plastic ones should be available from good DIY shops. Most phone terminals are numbered. Simply get your 6 core phone cable and ensure you keep the various wire strands matched to the numbers at each end.

Re: how do i wire a telwest phone socket ? please

hi rob
thankyou for replying
i'm not sure what the little boxis called inside it has 4 blocks to put wires in the 123 456 123 456
it has blue with small white bits, white with smallblue, orange with smallwhite, white with small orange
this box was possibly outside but it is now inside due to a front house extension.
do you know what colour goes to which number?

in the socket theres a block of 4 to put wires in labelled 2,3,4,5 there is also another block above with A B with 3 inserts to put wires

Re: how do i wire a telwest phone socket ? please

The colors you describe are the big clue, i.e. they will match the wire colours. Although phone cable is often made up of three pairs of wires (six in total ie a pair of green/white, blue/white and orange/white), often only one pair is actually used.

correct, its blue/white (2) white/blue (5) but if its an extension he will need the orange/white in 3 to carry the ringer through from the master, unless the 'slave' socket has a capacitor in

pleasure quick one,the back of a stanley blade terminates your cable in the steps just as good as a kroning (IDC)tool.

Re: how do i wire a telwest phone socket ? please

if it has an A and B connection thats where you put the white/blue (A) and the blue/white (B),sounds contradictory to what i posted previously but i didnt realise you were connecting a master socket
