Re: Pandemic Flu - This one could be for real......
A virus has no respect for a clean house and people who have impeccable hygiene go to the docs and have antibiotics for every disease will have a defense system that is weak and will be shocked when they do catch anything bad
overconfidence arrogance I dunno but why are we like that? why do we have such little respect for mother nature? do we really think we are so great ? We have points in history as evidence that we are vunerable we have works of fiction that show how man caught off gaurd could get all but decimated by new disease. There are diseases I am sure in labs around the world that could do this it only takes one case of something truelly untreatable to start te begining of the end. But this thread tells me man is greater than God and disease is no match for us. Although funny isnt it how TB strains are now resistant to anti biotics and measures are in place just in case someone releases Smallpox into the water

I don't think it is a case of arrogance that your seeing on here it is more realism and a refusal to panic at the first sign of something nasty. We will all keep an eye on this and how it spreads if it does but right now i think it is silly to be suggesting that we stock up on food and water. Causing a panic right now will probably do more damage and harm then this virus even if it make an apperence here in large numbers and we have to guard against that.

Reasons not to panic:
- As the virus moves further out of Mexico it appears to be a lot milder. Few require hospital admission. Doctors advise in America has been to stay at home.
- The UK and France have been deemed 'best equipped' to deal with the outbreak. No doubt in part because of the preparation should Bird Flu have spread.
- The Flu season is ending here, and experts seem to think that would help stop this virus from spreading.

Re: Pandemic Flu - This one could be for real......
It is realistic to assume this virus wont be worse case senario I agree but its also unrealistic to think we are untouchable. The planet is over populated it is only getting worse and the enviroment will becoming a lot more hostile if ptojections are correct. Something has to keep this in line unless it runs it course and its poverty starvation then disease and warfare in the future. There will be some kind of cull eventually unless we end up totally extinct

Yes, but what about the 09/10 season?
I think Swine flu should just add to the squad during the close season to continue their impressive rise up the table this year.
H5N1 Bird flu has a lot of work to do, they promised much at the start of each year but never deliver when it comes to the end.
The most consistant performer of course is Man Flu, this is always right up there during the year. Always punches above it weight. Some detractors say it is not a flu at all - but who cares the effect is much the same.

Just so I get your analogy right:
Bird Flu = Spurs (never quite gets up there)
Swine Flu = Arsenal (if only the season wasn't ending!)
I think people will be more prepared for Swine Flu next season, they'll be ready and it will find it a lot harder to take people by surprise.

Fort Detrick, the U.S. Army Medical Command installation that was the source of the 2001 anthrax attacks, is again attracting suspicion in light of the swine flu panic after it was revealed that criminal investigators are probing whether virus samples recently went missing from its biolabs.

Re: Pandemic Flu - This one could be for real......
A U.S. based pharmaceutical company that just weeks ago was involved in a scandal involving vaccines tainted with deadly avian flu virus has been chosen to head up efforts to produce a vaccine for the Mexican swine flu that has seemingly migrated into the U.S. and Europe.

I do think the media for whatever reason are hyping this but i personally just see that as the latest thing they want us to live in fear of. I in no way shape or form feel i am untouchable but i don't think this is going to be the thing to end me just yet and as it is hitting more develpoed nations it is proving to be less then fatal so really no need to panic.

Spot on really, they love to cause mass panic at least once a year or more.
Millenium bug (never happened)
SARS (never really left Asia and now we don't even hear about it)
9/11 (one other terror attack on the west since then)
Iraq's nukes (LOL)
Iran's nukes (LOL)
