Re: graphic card question
It has faster clocked shaders (as core frequency and shaders are always linked).
To be honest, this is the first time i've heard anyone mention that it was supposed to have improved shaders. Where did you hear this?

Re: graphic card question
No idea. Will have a scoot round and see if I can find it. It was on more than one site. Fudzilla maybe?

We’ve heard that ATI's secret weapon with RV790 is not actually the higher clock speed, but rather improved shader efficiency, which enables it to do things a bit faster than a RV770.
This would mean that the RV790, Radeon HD 4890 card should end up faster compared at the same clock and specification to HD 4870 card.
We are not sure what ATI did to its shaders, but this is the reason why RV790 chips are actually differ from the RV770, and that the pin count is not the same. The release day should be April 6th.

That's from Fudzilla, but I did read it on other sites. Maybe it was smoke n mirrors.

Re: graphic card question
Fudzilla is notorious for guesstimates rather than hard facts, or statements which can be taken in many different ways.
The increase in transistors is natural because of the changes made to the power distribution, they retimed the entire chip and added a decap ring which increased the chip's size (to cancel out signal noise). 3 Million transistors is nothing in today's semiconductor world. Shader effiency can only be increased by a clock bump or an update to the shader clusters, which would see a more dramatic change in transistor count.
The increase in fill rate though is consistent with a clock increase, not a shader effiency increase

Yeah they are, I did read it elsewhere, but I am more than happy to take your word for it, so who cares? End of the day if they all got the info from the same place......it might have originated at Fudzilla for all I know.
