SMC routeur with cable modem Motorola SB5102

Hello everybody,

There is already 3 weeks that I'm trying to connect my SMCWBR14S routeur to my cable modem Motorola SB5102. This modem is working perfectly with a Dlink routeur.
Connection is using Dynamic IP so I just have to plug in Dlink routeur and it works immediatly.

If I do the same with the SMC routeur it's not working at all. Routeur can't get any address form the modem (also selected Dynamic IP) :

INTERNET
WAN IP: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: 192.168.100.1
Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

GATEWAY
IP Address: 192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
Firewall: Disabled
UPnP: Enabled
Wireless: Enabled

INFORMATION
Numbers of DHCP Clients: 1
Runtime Code Version:
0.00.19 (Aug 11 2008 18:41:03)
Boot Code Version: V0.12
LAN MAC Address: 00-13-F7-8E-BA-51
Wireless MAC Address: 00-13-F7-8E-BA-51
WAN MAC Address: 00-13-F7-8E-BA-52
Hardware Version: 01

I've 4 differents ethernet cables (cross-over and straight ones) but that does'nt change anything. I've reset smc like 10 times but problem is still here.
If someone could help, I really don't know what to do !!!

Have you rebooted the Modem at any point during this? The Modem needs to be rebooted before a new device can be attached

Sticking with trying the obvious first, Is your lead from modem to router plugged into the WAN port on the router?

but everytime someone tries to help, you put them down, what do you expect?

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but if you are 'not that stupid' then you wouldn't need to ask for help, would you? - please try being a little more open to the help that actually is being offered & maybe more people would join in???

Re: SMC routeur with cable modem Motorola SB5102

I would suggest trying a fixed IP on the computer. Given that your gateway address is 192.168.2.1 try setting the PC to a manual address in the same group such as 192.168.2.2 and setting DNS addresses the same way. I'm assuming your ISP has notified you of their DNS server addresses?

That at least will eliminate DHCP problems from the issue.

Thumbs down

I just got one of these routers and i am not @ all impressed with it!

The cable company locks the config page so you cannot get to the config options,it doesnt seem to load pages quite as fast,i am probably gonna call them and demand another solution!

My GOOD modem (Toshiba PCX 5000) went bad on me the other day (The loading was EXCELLENT on that (ONLY THING I DIDNT LIKE IS: It kept locking up)

I dont like my options being taken away...At least with the Toshiba modem,I HAD FULL CONTROL over the config options,etc..........

I have since read alot of not good things about this unit...... (And people wonder why i dont like 'NEW' things (IT IS BETTER THAN THE TOSHIBA (HASNT LOCKED UP YET) BUT THE QUALITY FAILS))

Good luck with this latypik

I have gotton a new SMC modem (The other one wouldnt connect to the net when i booted it the other morning) and was able to lock it down to 1 mac address and i think I CAN view if anyone else is using the modem,im not shure though....

Trying to find the SAME DNS SERVER my other modem used as it produced better results i think.... (Its either a DNS error or the SMC router is the issue)
