Re: Virgin Home Phone

When you say in your phonebook do you mean physically in your cordless phone?

Re: Virgin Home Phone

Trisha what happens when you dial 1470? Do you get an alternating dial tone? If so, your phone might be dialling too fast for the exchange to pick up the first digit in the number string, after the phone dials 1470.

If your phone allows it, you may need to program a pause after 1470 into the phone memory, e.g. 1470p0121xxxxxxx. I know you can do this with Panasonic handsets but you will have to check the user guide for your particular handset / phone.

Hi dave dph erm not sure what you mean with alternating tone, will check phone see what happens they are BT freelance XD5500. It was great till phone line went barmy. They say they had to put a new card in exchange due to power surge since this things have gone barmy. And i don't want to have to buy new phones. I can't grasp why it was fine before all this happened. And cable are not very helpful arghhhhh

Sorry, what I mean is... if you just dial 1470 on your phone, do you hear a different dial tone which alternates in pitch, or do you hear nothing at all?

From what you are saying I would put money on it being the former?

Re: Virgin Home Phone

Well thats the case in most franchises. I would suggest that you use what was stated above 'Using the pause facility' will stop that problem. eg 1470p01827-xxx-xxx

This is also the case with Colt,Verizon,Smallworld Media and some Cable and Wireless telephone lines.

Other options.............

Remove Permanent number withold and only dial 141 before a non trusted number.

Dial 1470 manually

Furthermore, what I have also discovered is that some companies that I have called have recieved my Calling line identity even though I dialled 141 and that was with a BT and Telewest line. Also I left a voicemail on someones NTL Advanced voicemail and my number still showed up even though I witheld my number. How is that NTL had my number when I called from a BT landline and put 141 before dialling!

Re: Virgin Home Phone

Hiya Guys just to let you know my problem has now been solved woohoo. Basically because the card at the exchange had blown and was replaced, they should have rebuilt the card to my specific phone requests. But at first they failed to do this Doh. Now after hours and hours of phone calls they have fixed it and i can now use the 1470 in my phonebook as before yessss. So if anyone else's card goes at the exchange ensure that they re-build it to your specific needs and you should get all facility's as normal. Thanks guys for all your info and advice much appreciated.
