re: The iPhone thread

If it was the soon-to-be new iphone then I'd be more inclined to pay that sort of amount for a sim-free version.

But £600 for a handset that's almost a year old...?

re: The iPhone thread

I paid £600 for my XDA Exec but I'd never pay £600 again.

re: The iPhone thread

well it is about £400 on Payg so that price is probably about right for a sim free smart phone.

Jailbreak please!

On another note, has anyone had problems with 2.2.1 fw and Wifi?

I haven't. (on an 1st gen jailbroken iPhone). What probs you having?

Speaking of which...The iPhone is great for web browsing, apps, games... but is actually stunningly poor at being a phone.

I have got an old iPhone free/cheap and its almost unusable as a phone. The ringer is upto max and I can barely hear it. I have no chance in my pocket or another room. Someone said use a louder custom ringtone. I have, it hasn't improved much. Also if you do miss a call or text, it doesn't signal you. So you have to keep checking your phone. That's rubbish IMO.

No problems here on the 3G, so far. Punky, I know exactly what you mean about ringtone volume, I do get one notification if I miss a text, my biggest gripe is the amount of times the phone rings ( 4 ) before it goes to voice mail ( which I use ) haven't found a solution to this yet, anyone ?

My Wifi doesn't work at all anymore, just have to use 3G for now until I pop in to the Apple store and get a replacement.

It got better in the 3G iPhone I found, I suspect it may be because of the better, louder, speakers.

re: The iPhone thread

My Gen1 iPhone has a similar issue - especially since the 2.2.1 upgrade, but I thought it was my signal. But it does intermittently drop back to EDGE/GPRS when wi-fi is enabled (the router is only in the next room, separated by a stud wall). I've repositioned the router with no problems, and I don't have connectivity problems on my laptop, which I use in the same place.

What do you think my chances are of getting a new iPhone? Its still (Just) within its year warranty... plus theres the whole "reasonable time" thing that you have the right to when asking for something fixed.

IE: When you buy a device (the iPhone a casing point), you could reasonably expect it to keep working once the warranty has run out and the vendor should attempt to rectify the issue providing its a reasonable time (don't expect them to do anything 2-3years down the line though...).

If your Wifi doesn't work then book a Genius appointment and get them to look at it, if it doesn't work then they will give you a new iphone (well refurb) although if your lucky and they don't stock 2G ones anymore, they might give you a 3G which is always a reason to go in and see if they will replace!
