Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

Hi guys,

i bought a medion MD8800 2 years ago which came with XP
the specs were pretty decent and i payed £700 for it...

i decided to add another 2 gig of ram and upgrade the gfx and sound card...

my system specs are :
Intel® Pentium® D Dual Core processor 830
3.0 GHz, 2 x 1MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB
Nvidia Geforce 7650 GS 256DDR2 HDMI / DVI
3GB DDR2 SDRAM with 533 MHz
2x Sata Drives 1 = 150gig 7200 and other samsung spinpoint 1tb 7200
Soundcard : Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 Optical Digital High Performance & Fidelity sound card
Does anyone have any idea why vista seems a bit rubbish on this?
and if theres anything i can do to improve the performance
its scoring 4.3.

i dont have any motherboard drivers for vista (but vista auto installs anyway) the motherboard is MS-7204
but when you go on the MSI Motherboard Website there is no such board and the MSI Auto Driver Upgrade Tool does not recognise the board as it is customer made for Medion.

if i have to, i would upgrade my CPU and Mobo but if im going to do that i would be aswell as getting a new pc lol

to round up..
basically i just want to know what you think might be making my system a tad sluggish.

Re: Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

I wouldn't say 4.3 is too rubbish a score. My Dell XPS Laptop scores a 5.0 on Vista and I am running the following (although can't remember the full details.)

Dual Core Pentium 2.4Ghz
3GB DDR2 RAM
256MB DDR3 Nvidia GForce Graphics Card
320GB HDD

What are the full results? The final index is based on the lowest of the scores.

Re: Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

MSCONFIG = Startup unticked for the moment
so nothing booting up

what im finding weird is.. even to install AVG or any program on it.. it took 15-20 mins to install AVG which is weird.. AVG Free takes what 2 mins on XP to install..

this is whats confusing me :S...

although XP runs great on my machine.. (which i keep forcing myself to stick with)

i really want to be on the OS of today if you get me.. its time for a change..

Graphics card is probably cheap crap..

i originally had a 128 geforce .. i phoned medion and complained they came out and swapped it with a 256 (so i didnt say anything)

but iv just stuck with it if you know what im saying.. i have been restricting myself to adding more to the system just for the sake of vista...

its PCI Express too..

Its a decent card though as I can play COD4, Mirrors Edge and Crysis pretty well.

Can run Farcry 1 at pretty much maximum.

Re: Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

It's probably the processor causing low marks. Doesn't seem like it can bench very well. It's an old processor, it's dual core, but not Core2 technology, meaning it's slower and less efficient.

Re: Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

They are still making Dual core cpus that are not Core2 which are no means old or outdated. The E2 and the E5 range

Re: Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

Pentium D Dual Cores are different than Core 2 Duo's.

Just read up about it, Intel's Pentium D Dual Core's are basically 2 Prescott processors running side by side. The performance out of the two isn't great, they run hot aren't aren't good for overclocking. So this is where I'm guessing the marks are being hit.

Re: Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

2 prescott cores? the E5200 is half the proccess @45nm over the D 's 90nm does not make them anywhere near the same

The E is also half the power at 65 w over the D @ 130

Speedstep and thermal monitor appears to be missing from the D

Re: Check These Specs.. whats wrong with this?

But he has an Intel® Pentium® D Dual Core processor 830, not a Core2 E5200. Unless I'm just getting horribly confused.
