Corgi standard is going new one coming in.
Hi all heard on the news this morning that the corgi standard for gas fitters is no longer valid on 1st April this year and is being replaced by something called the gas safe register. Now apparently this is being done to raise awareness of gas safety issues and has come from the HSE .
Am i the only one that thinks this is completely stupid given that corgi is now fully established and more or less has public confidence and that by changing the system and NOT making it very well known amongst the public is just well stupid.
This is another thing that to me screams "we have to be seen to be doing something" and is change for changes sake rather then something that is high on the list of broken things to fix in this country.

Re: Corgi standard is going new one coming in.
This has been going on in the background since January and was supposed to go public at the beginning of March. Not much out there officially yet but I've attached a link giving a bit more information.

add, I have no connections to the Solar Heating trade so I am not trying to advertise their wares but the link has more information than most others at the moment.

Re: Corgi standard is going new one coming in.
Known about it for a while, talked to a corgi registered plumber about it, all that's changing is the name apparently, everything else carries on, no new tests for the corgi plumbers etc, so the only thing they've done is cost the plumbers, sign writing, stationary etc etc ( not that they can't afford it ) £35 p/h
EDIT: When I say all that's changing is name, that's all it is to the plumber, obviously the companies behind the schemes change.

This is the first I've heard anything of it, and I work in property. Something that is going to have a lot of potential for confusion

Re: Corgi standard is going new one coming in.
My mate is a corgi reg'd plumber/heating engineer and he's known about it for a while. Theres one thing thats annoying him, even though he's corgi reg'd he will have to pay AGAIN (bout £700) to be Gas Safe Registered. Luckily he hasn't got a van yet so sign writing isn't one of his costs.

Re: Corgi standard is going new one coming in.
I only caught it in passing on sky news and they weren't making that big an issue of it but i think it is as it is to do with people that should go to everyones home that use's gas the public should have been properly informed by the government. It really amaze's me in this country when something works we have to play about with it making it more confusing more exspensive but when things are broken they stay that way for ever and a day something definately screwed up. Glad this has informed you about something relevent Rob but again absolutely stupid that people like you are finding out this way.

Re: Corgi standard is going new one coming in.
i agree on this one this was one bad idea by the HSE not enough know about CORGI let alone trying to get those who did and didnt to know about the new system
can only see confusion coming from this one
