Here's a funny one on Health and safety
I think this item was so funny, about health and safety, that l had to place it on this forum.
I was listening to the radio today, and a certain Council, is closing a outdoor swimming pool, as when it rains, lifeguards might not be able to see to the end of the pool.
I don't have a link, and someone else might have heard the story, but this is HS gone mad.

It just gets crazier and unless you see a link you would think it was a joke.

So they're saying if the rain gets too heavy then the lifeguards would have trouble seeing someone who might be in trouble at the bottom of the pool and this might lead to someone drowning.
I know!! How ridiculous is that!!

This is crazy,
the last time I was in a outdoor swimming when it rainned people got out and stood under umbrellas, and that is not a joke.

Makes perfect sense, if the Lifeguard cannot see people in the pool then safety is compromised. If someone died there would be a topic here about council incompetence.

Re: Here's a funny one on Health and safety
This is probably one 'elf n' safety story I agree with. If a lifeguard can't see the other side of the pool, then how can be in a position to save their life?
I would say the sensible compromise would be to sling a rope across the middle of the pool when it rains, but then i'm sure someone will swim under it, drown and have their family sue the lifeguard.
Is the lifeguard at one end of the pool though? Can't they put the chair half way down like where tennis umpires sit so (s)he should have a good view of both ends?

Plus even if the is 2 guards present we have to consider the possibility of them getting a cold being in the rain and suing the council for negligence

Re: Here's a funny one on Health and safety
This is the most silliest story l have ever heard of, This is HS gone mad, So that means if it rains, when l ref a game of football, l have to call the game off, as l cannot see a player on the other side, getting wet.
If there is a lifegaurd on duty, they should really walk round the edge of the pool, therefore he can see, what is happening. really stupid.

Not quite. The article states that in conditions of heavy rain or fog, when the lifeguard can't see the bottom of the pool, swimming is not allowed. Also, a football player getting wet is not quite the same as someone lying at the botttom of the pool, drowning...
