Re: 2mb to 1mb?

Does this only happen between 4PM and 9PM? I could be wrong, but you may be getting STM'd for going over a download limit in that time.

Re: 2mb to 1mb?

the easiest way to find out is to look at what your upload speed. Visit www.speedtest.net and do a speedtest and look at your upload speed.
If it's around 256kb/s you're not STM'd and if it's around 128 kb/s you're STM'd

Re: 2mb to 1mb?

That's been happening for over a year. It's shocking that some customers still don't know about this.

Re: 2mb to 1mb?

I don't think it's STM with 55 kb/s upload speed.
goto http://192.168.100.1/ and look at your modem config pages, you should see one marked `Signal' go there and post the info on that page (power levels down and up stream and Signal to noise ratio for downstream). Someone will probably tell you if there's a problem with the figures.

Other than that get in touch with tech support, which you can do two ways. By telephone or newsgroup support and if you don't want to spend hours on the phone I suggest you try VM's newsgroup support.

For how to setup outlook express for newsgroups:
http://www.virginmedia.com/customers...setting-up.php
and the group you need to subscribe to is:
virginmedia.support.broadband.cable

Post on the above newsgroup with a description of your problems and see what they're got to say on the matter.

Re: 2mb to 1mb?

Settings, number 6 (technical stuff), then page through with the red button.

You do not get downstream level, but if the SNR and error rates look good, the level is probably ok.
You do see the upstream level, and trying to remember, is 55 the critical level, at which the upstream power is maxed-out?

Other thing, is the event logs, if it's stacking up anything that looks bad.
