Re: codec packs

did you remove all older codecs before installing it? Have you tried uninstalling it then installing latest version?

I see you have had problems and posted about k-lite before. What player are you using? the mplayer classic that comes with it is what I use.

did you try VLC? Plays most things inside itself with no extra coodecs needed

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

Or install codecs separately, before FFDShow became reliable I used to use Koepi's XViD build, Nvidia's MPEG2 decoder both with Zoom player and then VLC for anything that wouldn't play. It's better than having the codec-soup you get with codec packs.

Re: codec packs

I use K-Lite along with VLC Media Player or Media Player Classic. Works great for me.

Re: codec packs

Never bother with them.

K-Lite used to cause me a world of problems, with codecs crapping out, and loading against the wrong FourCCs. I then tried using ffdshow, but that throws a spack attack in Media Center and with some dual cores.

So, what I do:

Install Realplayer. Only let it associate with Real file types, and turn off basically everything
Install Quicktime. Same goes (although I use iTunes for music)
Run Media Player 11 (already present in Vista) and let it go on via auto.
Install DivX (Pro no less, managed to get in on the free copies), let it have xvid FourCC
Install VLC and associate with a few leftover file types I might want (flv mainly).

And that's it. WMP11 plays all my videos, DVD playback is built into Vista anyway... and I never get codec issues. Quicktime and RealPlayer mostly sit dormant until needed, so they don't get in the way. I often don't bother with RealPlayer until I need it though.

Problems occur when Media Player tries to play HD (.mkv) files. It doesn't like it.

Re: codec packs

How about VLC?

Besides, that's what I have Sky+HD for.

Well, when it behaves!

Re: codec packs

VLC is an excellent catchall for the randoms that just won't play. It's actually based on ffdshow though.

I find it a little bit clunky to use, but each version gets better, so I don't see it being long before it becomes my player of choice.
