Video Sender on Virgin V+

I have a Virgin V+ box and want to be able to use a video sender to allow me to watch TV in another part of the house.

I bought a DigiSender X7 from Maplins but the picture and sound were distorted probably because of my wireless network which I believe uses the same 2.4Ghz frequency as the DigiSender.

I swapped this for a Nikkai video sender which uses the 5.8Ghz frequency, this produced a very good result but I was unable to use the Virgin remote control with it.

Maplins said that they didn't think there were any 5.8 Ghz Video Senders that would work with the Virgin box and allow the use of the remote. Has anybody come across such a beast? or if not could I use the Nikkai Video Sender and combine it with something like the Digieye Remote Control Extender

Re: Video Sender on Virgin V+

Martin, have you tried changing the channel on your wireless network? I had the same problem but after I switched to channel 11 my Digisender worked almost perfectly.

If you've got an HD tv then unfortunately you're going to run into problems anyway. Virgin have decided to disable the menus on the Scart output when you're in HD mode.

That's right, you won't get the menus to work no matter what video sender/receiver you use. Switching channels on tmy 2.4GHz worked for me too.

Re: Video Sender on Virgin V+

Hi everyone,
I am a new member and this particular area confuses me too....

I have a V+ box connected by HD lead. I can get a picture and sound but not full handset functionality.
...However I understand that if I remove/disconnect the hd lead and connect the V+ via scart to the tv an av sender will then work (or more acurately the remote will work and I will have access to all the menus and guides) I further understand that I will have to lose full hd effect (no hardship there just yet!) and I will have to daisy chain AV sender into the main scart output (ie not use the video scart socket)
........is this correct? - my SKY is now disconnected and upstairs tv is now restricted (boo!)
I have searched (as a lurker) and feel this topic has never been fully clarified
How about a pinned guide?????????
.......excellent forum by the way

Re: Video Sender on Virgin V+

Thanks for the replies guys, I did try all the different channels (there were only 4), channel 2 was the best but still not acceptable. In the absence of a 5.8 Ghz device that I can use the remote with, I think I will have to buy a remote extender device as well and hope that they will work together.

Re: Video Sender on Virgin V+

well I did as suggested........

....no interference with/from wi-fi at all or have I????

.......EPG menus and other handset funtionality all ok BUT I have noticed a thin white line towards the top of the screen

Only when on menu screens- about 1/3 down! Picture not effected so I do not think this is wi-fi

Any ideas????

Thanks guys

Re: Video Sender on Virgin V+

Just bought the 5.8Ghz Philex video sender from Argos, the V+ remote works perfectly with it, picture and sound are pretty good too. Problem solved!

Re: Video Sender on Virgin V+

Is it possible to get a second fully functioning V+ remote....

.....or will a universal one work???

.........saves taking the remote up and down stairs all the time. Most shops sell sky/sky+ but I havent seen any virgin ones.

It should be simple to get another V+ Remote Control.

Virgin Media's Fault Department Tel No: 151 - Ask Virgin Media for a replacement remote control to replace your faulty one.

They will send you a free one and ask you to dispose of the old remote control. Maplin told me once that buying a universal remote is useless, which I agreed with. I asked Virgin could I buy one, but they told me that they would send me one free of charge, which surprisingly they did! When buttons won't work properly I ask for a replacement, which is always sent.

Before I forget, I have stated below never follow Virgin's Media instruction to tune the remote control because it should be able to work on any TV if you do not tune it to work on a particular TV.

The problem is that if you are using more than one TVs you have to remember which remote control works for which TV. You also have to use the second television's remote control to control the sound on the second TV if you only have one V+ remote control, which you have tuned to the first TV. If you are going to ask me how do you untune a tuned remote control - after finding a competent person - I swopped the two tuned remote controls for new ones - Fault and Customer Service Tel No: 151 were completely useles.

Therefore probably your only problem maybe if there are any more postal strikes.

Martin 907,
I shall try the Philex SLX 5.8 GHz from Argos. Before buying, I shall check that Argos will give a full refund if it doesn't work.

This is because since having three gold AEI's wireless Senders since 2003/2004 to-date and contacting AEI's Help Line it is impossible to get the Wireless Video Sender to work properly after trying everthing - includes; the eye is near and facing the sensor, sunlight, moving the video senders, antennas, the four switches (2 power 4 = 16, NB! All 4 switches (2 on the back of the sender and the 2 on the receiver must be the same).

Not too impress with AEI's Products and their Telephone Help Line over the years.

If Philex 5.8 GHz not only provides excellent picure (video) and sound (audio) but able to control the V+ fromm a different room then excellent.

The problem with using Wireless Video Senders to control Virgin Media (Telewest and NTL) V and V+ (high definition) set top boxes is that they are unpredictable (Problem with V and V+ boxes - their signals encrypted). There are too many wireless signals either within the home or neighbours that can cause interferences for example DEC telephones and microwave Ovens - from nearby houses.

---------- Post added at 09:57 ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 ----------

Spiderplant,

NB! Before I begin, never tune the V+'s remote control because it is already tuned (yellow box on a black background), alters the volume from the box.

If you tune the remote control (blue line on a black background) eg follow the Virgin's TV instruction it will probably only work for one TV instead of any TV. < Home > \ 9 Help & Info \ 7 Help with your remote control \ follow the instructions.

For the AEI Gold Wireless Sender to send a signal from an high defination (HD) TV to a second TV what I would do:-

1) Place the V or V+ settings - (using the V's or V+'s remote control)
A) < Home > \ 8 Settings \ 4 Change Display & Audio Settings \ TV display format (Widescreen) \ V+ Box colour output (RGB)

2) Scart lead is connected between the V+ box and the TV and also
3) Connect the HDMI lead between the V+ box and the TV
4) Change the TV to the AV2 mode - (Using the TV's remote control).

It would be a nuisance, but you should be able to watch high definition on your TV if you wanted to:-
1) Set the HDMI mode on the V+ box (Use the V+'s remote control) to HD
A) < HDMI > \ 8 Settings \ 4 Change Display & Audio Settings \ TV display format (HiDef HDMI) \ V+ Box HiDef outlput (1080 wide / 720 wide)
Then save and close < OK >

NB! If the box is not set-up properly an HD programme on a 1080p TV could be blurred on a 1080p setting but not on a 720p setting. This is because even though 1080p should give a better picture quality the V+ box will cause blurness if the V+ box hasn't been set-up properly, until a technician properly tunes the V+ box.

But, if you watch HD on your HD TV you must remember to change the HD settings back again to change the HD settings on the box back to Digital Settings to get an excellent picture on the second TV using in my case the AEI Gold Wireless Video Sender when it was working properly.

NB! I don't think that it is necessary to remove the HDMI lead. When I tried to send a wireless signal from the HD TV and the V+ box both set to HD mode I probably didn't get any picture on the second TV.
