Do you have the laptop that you are looking to find out about? If so, check the stock power supply output voltage and max current, which will be written on it. As a rough guess, the power the laptop uses when running will be between about 1/4 and 2/3 of Volts x Amps.
For example, my netbook has a 40W power supply, uses ~10W idle and 20W under full load.
Then:
Cost (in pence/day) = (Watts/1000) * Hours * Pence per kWh
