Re: 50Mb areas

Please do not read too much sarcasm into this post (a little, but not too much!)
I am interested in 50mb cable. HAving been here since it was Diamond Cable, ntl and now Virgin, i think i should know that i have cable, being as i am on the 20mb service, and am being charged so.
So please, oh wise Virgin guru's. tell me why when i put my post code into the 'can i get 50mb box', it then tells me i am not even in a cable area yet can still get it down the phone line?
I am confused, if i cannot get cable, how have i posted this and been charged for it? LOL
ffs. Anyway, when is Nottingham due an upgrade please?

Re: 50Mb areas

Is the postcode you are typing in the same one that is on the bills Virgin send you?

Yes it is. My address does come up after the post code thingy, but after that i get the 'error'. I have been on 20mb and was one of the first in my area in fact

Re: 50Mb areas

I think it's well established that their database often doesn't match the reality. This has been reported many times before.

It's not unique to Virgin sadly. Most of the utility companies seem to have areas that are only partially or poorly mapped.

Re: 50Mb areas

Agreed - the postcode checker has been badly wrong for my area in the past. Initially it claimed I was in an analogue only cable area (not true it's an ex-Telewest digital area).

Then just prior to the 50 Mb/s launch it claimed I wasn't in a cable area at all (despite already having cable service)

So I am now wondering if it is actually right about 50 Mb/s not being available, as I thought South London was complete?

I gather I do conenct to the Croydon headend systems, which have been upgraded, but via New Malden.

Does anyone know if New Malden has been upgraded?

If the postcode checker hadn't be so wrong in the past I trust it more!

Re: 50Mb areas

Still waiting for Burnley to get upgraded, unless it already has...

Been checking the postcode checker daily, but the recent revelation that it's actually a bit slow (Timmy!) may force me to phone VM tomorrow and ask, unless someone here knows for sure if it has/hasn't been activated here yet?

Cheers folks, interesting thread

Re: 50Mb areas

This is the first time it has not worked for my address. But reading here, it appears it has been that way for some of you too. I just hope there are some offers as well to go with the 50mb

Don't get your hopes up too much on getting a deal to go with the 50Mbit, it's pretty simple really take whatever you have now and add the difference between 20Mbit and 50Mbit and that's about the sum of it

Brand new product won't come with discounts straight away.

Re: 50Mb areas

50Mbit costs £15 more a month than 20Mbit unless you are on Triple XL/XL Plus or VIP when it is an extra £10 a month

---------- Post added at 19:00 ---------- Previous post was at 19:00 ----------

Everyone pays £80 set up/install

Re: 50Mb areas

Well isn't that nice of them. However be prepared for it going wrong, as 50Mbit service can't be ordered without charging the £80, you will have to rely on someone credited it back again.

Which is why no-one is supposed to offer to waive it.
