Re: Football : Season 08/09
Hi iadom, Now you are talking hardmen, this was when it was called football, not the football you have nowadays.
Football, these days, is too soft, the players are paid thousands of pounds a week, and play like fairies, that is why, they would not last five minutes, if the hardmen were around today.
I can just imagine Ronaldo, playing against Dave Mackay, Ronaldo would be flying out the ground, when he was going to dive in the box, on the end of Mackays boot.

Re: Football : Season 08/09
No l don't, l believe in a fair game, but it is about time, officials cut out all the cheating from diving, and in a game l watched yesterday, a playuer went down for a foul, and he got up and waved a finger in gesture of giving the other player a booking, this is called ' unsporting behaviour' and is a booking offence, but did he get booked - no, you cannot have one rule for one, and one rule for another.

Re: Football : Season 08/09
So you'd be dead set against anyone (presumably including Ronaldo) getting fouled by Dave McKay?

Re: Football : Season 08/09
We are getting mixed up between HARD & DIRTY. Dave Mackay was never a dirty player but he was as hard as nails. If he managed to get a good tackle in on Ronaldo you can bet that Ronnie would go nowhere near him, ever again.
Now, Chopper Harris, Vinnie Jones, Graham Souness etc were just downright dirty players.
Jim.

Re: Football : Season 08/09
I have tonight seen the best cup tie, l have seen for ages, apart from the poor officals again, Bristol City against Portsmouth.
TWO blatant handballs by Portsmouth, one was a double hander, from Crouch, and the other was when the Portsmouth player pushed the ball away, when he was on the floor in the box -- well done City, you played well, its a pity that the officals, were not up to the job, and l don't support either side.

Brazilian footballer Kaka confirms that Manchester City has offered a world record £100m to sign him.
Kotscho said Kaka would only accept a deal if the club could prove it can become a winning team in the short term and show it is capable of playing in future Champions League and contending for the Premier League title.

100mill, £500.000 a week. This is getting stupid.

Re: Football : Season 08/09
totally agree stone, thats just 26mill a year he'll not survive on that.
He'll be the most well paid player in the world. but on the beeb gossip I heard he doesnt want to go to City as they dont win anything.
Quote:
Kaka's agent says he would not go to Manchester City purely for the money. "He would never do something like Robinho, who, just to earn more, contented himself with a solution that was not a winning one," said Diogo Kotscho. (Corriere dello Sport, 1200 GMT)

I have to say I'm finding rather satisfying that the blue half expected to sign the greatest players in the world and are erm....finding it slightly difficult so far

Re: Football : Season 08/09
Football, is being ruin by disgraceful bids for players, NO player is worth 100million, l don't give a monkies, who they are.
In this day and age, the most a player is worth, is about 15 million, but you have to include, the agents fee, and the club fee etc. I am sorry to say, at first l said that Chelsea were ruining the game, with silly fees, but that has now stopped, can you imagine, that IF does go to City, his wages are said to be about 250.000 per week, now who pays that, simple? the club puts the price up for fans, and bingo we pay in the end, absolutley disgusting.

I think you'll find 500 grand a week is small change for City's new owners. They could probably pay the whole team that amount and not notice it going from their bank account. But as you say, no player is worth £100million and half a million a week, no matter how good they are.

Re: Football : Season 08/09
Papa smurf, When l started gooing to Tottenham, it cost me £8-00 to get into the terraces, l know this was a long time ago, But my son bought three tickets to go to the Wigan FA Cup game, it cost him £45.00 for each ticket, and that was for a poor view.
If you go to a grade one game ie Arsenal, Chelsea is can cost as much £60.00 each and that will be the cheapest.
It is about time the Football Supporters Association, say's to the Premier League enough is enough concerning the prices of going to a game.
