Help with Netgear DG834G

Hi,

I'm trying to remotely help a friend connect to his PS3 wirelessly through his Netwgear DG834G v3. I logged on on to his laptop using LOGMEIN and got access to the router settings.

I'm not to familar with the PS3 settings/setup screens though from what my friend says is that it picks up his router.

On the router it is setup as WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK which is an option the PS3 gives. However everytime we enter in the key on the PS3 and save the settings the PS3 says to check the routers security settings and gives and error code of 8013013E.

Now if we change the encryption and set it to disabled the PS3 picks it up and is happy with the router.

I googled it and see there are others with the same problem though some suggest entering in the PS3 MAC under the access list thought this option has not be turned on and it does work when the security is disabled.

Anything else I could try?

Re: Help with Netgear DG834G

How old is the PS3?

I know some of the early firmware versions had problems with wpa

Disable the secuirty or set it to WEP temporarily. (or if possible connect via cable) Download the latest firmware update and then see if it wants to work with the wpa/wpa2

Re: Help with Netgear DG834G

so is the problem with the ps3 firmware? When I googled it it seemed to suggest that it was the routers fault. I dont quiet understand as the router works with his Vista laptop and it connects to the ps3.

He got the PS3 in January this year with his mobile contract.

Could be if it was a very early version, although it probably got updated by a game since then...

Re: Help with Netgear DG834G

I read that I may have to upgradethe routers firmware. but if PS£ firmware needs upgrading I might try that first.

Re: Help with Netgear DG834G

I tried the ps3 update. he was on 2.42 and now updated to the latest one. That did not work.

In case someone else has the same problem:

Check if your modem version is DG834Gv3
if it is then check the router software version (can be found under the router status menu on the left hand side of the screen). Upgrade it to this version http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d103272.asp
