Printer share

I have a USB printer on my main PC and am setting up a 2nd PC in another room. Both computers are connected to a Linksys Router.

Is it possible to have the print request sent from the 2nd pc to the main pc to the printer ?

If it is possible can this been done when setting up a home network between the 2 computers ?

Re: Printer share

Provided that the computer connected to the USB printer is on when you want to prinit this should work.

Both computers need to be in the same workgroup. It should then be a case of enabling printer sharing on the connected PC, and then connecting to the shared printer from your remote PC using the Add printer wizards.

Might be a bit more complex if your computers use a different OS such as one being on XP and the other on Vista.

Re: Printer share

Yep, you'll need to share the printer on the main PC then just go through my network places to the 2nd PC, find the printer (should be shown along with any shared drives) and then right click and choose CONNECT... (though it will depend on the OS).

You'll find that depending on the configuration that XP (not sure of Vista does it as well) will automatically find the shared printer and will install it as a network printer..

If you reply though with the OS's involved people can give a lot more detailed answer
