Old Rediffusion network still active?
Edit: Link Removed - Cable Forum will not allow discussion of any means of obtaining cable related services without a proper subscription, regardless of the ownership of the network involved.
According to that site, its still active if you follow those difficult instructions to reconnect it.

Re: Old Rediffusion network still active?
Really, well since its not owned by anybody and since the cables are cluttering up my building I dont see why not.
Apparently in Canterbury, most of is intact and Virgin Media doesn't cover there, Virgin Media may want to snap it up???

Re: Old Rediffusion network still active?
Im very interested in the old Rediffusion network, dont know why lol.
Ive often seen the old redifusion boxes whilst doing installs in old council flats. Tried seeing if one worked one day with a customer who was also interested but nothing worked.
The old building in Plymouth still has the huge dish on the roof but its now a gym (work that one out Plymouth peeps! ). Seen most of the drains in Devonport, might open one up one day to have a peep!

Re: Old Rediffusion network still active?
I wonder if they ever ran Cables through Westminster?
If so, Virgin Media could use any disused ducts to provide services isntead of using BT's.
Also what would a company want with the old Rediffusion network if it hasn't got any paying customers? Bit of a loss!
Also I expect that most of it has been neglected and is in need of a good maintainence upgrade.
Its suprising how long these things stick around!

Re: Old Rediffusion network still active?
Why pay for someone to rip out the old stuff? I cant remember the RF story but it would make sence financially to just leave everything and bugger off lol.
With regards to VM using the old RF ducting, It maybe damaged in places and might cost them more that actually diggin it all up!

nope BET split Rediffusion in 2 in 1985 selling its TV leasing business (which became Granada) and the cable broadcasting system was sold to the maxwell group
