A widespread NTL proxy problem?
www.kodak.com/go/onetouch - tried this (actually it redirects to the final page), on:
1. Practically all my local (poplar) proxies - failed
2. A couple of proxies in an adjacent area - failed
3. An open proxy in another country - OK
4. A NTL Inktomi Proxy (Belfast) - OK
If this holds good, then there is a serious problem with this site (some pages work, some don't), and ALL the NetApp proxies!
The only thing I've varied from standard, is that my HTTP connections are increased by 50% (from 2 and 4 to 3 and 6) I used to use more, but that made some sites slower

Err, because a few local proxies have failed, they are all knackered?
Anyway I have no proxies defined, and have no trouble accessing that site.

Re: A widespread NTL proxy problem?
It works through all of the Bristol proxies (cacheX-bstl.server.ntli.net)
i can't be bothered to test any others at the moment, but it certainly isn't all proxy servers that are not working

Re: A widespread NTL proxy problem?
Bristol (BSTL), according to http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...trancache.html is an Inktomi cache centre.
I manually selected several of my local ones (Netapp) - ALL BAD, and an adjacent area - also Netapp, and bad.
The first NTL Inktomi I tried, worked fine.
My speculation, is there is something about the Netapps that prevents them working properly with the site.
OK, I'll randomly draw another Netapp
nott-cache-6.server.ntli.net
Failed, as expected
And now, thinking London, worked, an Inktomi
cache2-bmly.server.ntli.net
Yes, this worked - it's a problem, I would say, that is common to EVERY Netapp, and NONE of the Inktomi's
Take the same list, pull one that's a Netapp, another that's an Inktomi - and if it IS working for you, are you in an area that's down as Inktomi?

midd-cache-5.server.ntli.net
midd-cache-6.server.ntli.net

midd-cache-8.server.ntli.net
Each one i tried (above) just hung on 1 green bar & left the page blank
Old List (dont work)
cache1-midd.server.ntli.net (62.254.64.4)
cache2-midd.server.ntli.net (62.254.64.5)
cache3-midd.server.ntli.net (62.254.64.6)

Re: A widespread NTL proxy problem?
Yes it hangs with me also. With no proxies specified. I tried with a inktomi proxy (Cambridge) and it worked.

Re: A widespread NTL proxy problem?
Now this gets wierder ... Paul M / Jon T - Nottingham, one ok, one not - now figure that one out.
The only oddities I can recall that apply to my setup are:
1. Http connctions from 2 to 3, Http 1_0 connection from 4 to 6 - and that tweak has been working fine for ages ... used to be higher, but that was just being brutal with no gain in performance.
2. I set Timestamping enabled - I've always found that it helps performance on poor links
3. I've wandered the RWIN setting according to bandwidth x delay calculations and tests.
There is a firewall (Outpost), but no Router. I initailly suspected the firewall, but successful passage through an outside proxy and an NTL Inktomi pretty well rules that out.
I can remember dismissing other pages at Kodak as "dead" quite some time ago, months, so it was probably the same problem then.
Also tried my other old standby, the old and weak "Offbyone" browser, which can sometimes get a basic-mode version of a page by ignoring all the clever stuff. And of course, did the local proxy-dance as a matter of course - I do that on any hard to reach page, as the proxies are completely untrustworthy - though the Inktomis used to disgrace themselves a lot more often.

Re: A widespread NTL proxy problem?
I am on the Nottingham proxies and get the top inch or so of the page loading fairly quick with just the one tab showing for consumer photography. It just sits like that for ever but if I click the consumer photography tab it slowly opens the full page up.

Re: A widespread NTL proxy problem?
I'm on Telewest, and it doesn't load for me. I don't even get the top inch. Must be more than an (ntl) proxy problem.
Edit: and it doesn't time out, IE6 gives an 'invalid syntax error' Something to do with the site?
