Anyone still on 512k BB ?
A mate of mine at work was complaining of the internet being slower than usual, I said it is like that more often than not, he said it still seems slow for 1 meg. I said they don't do 1 meg anymore, it's gone to 2 meg. He's just gone into his modem config and it turns out he's on 512k down and 128k up
He's going to ring them up and I've asked the missus to look into it as well, seems a bit odd, or is it ?

The is quite a lot of people still on 512k and they may have actually asked for it to be capped and be paying a lower rate, if you want upgrading then call Customer Services on 150, do not waste your time calling Tech Support as they will only transfer the call and increase your callwaiting time.

14.99 before any discounts. Same as it was when it launched

Depends on who dealt with them in Customer Services and what the circumstances were, I presume someone else from that side may provide more details.

Re: Anyone still on 512k BB ?
Thanks guys you'd think for £3 it would be worth going up to 2mb, that is if they are aware of it.

You would think wouldn't you. However you would (possibly) be surprised how many people don't want to pay that extra amount.

Re: Anyone still on 512k BB ?
I didn't realise that you could actually get the 512k service still, anyway he hasn't asked to be kept on the lower rate and the nice lady said for a small fee she could upgrade him to 2 meg, which I think he will do tomorrow. I thought everyone was upgraded as they went along, and £14.99 for 512k is a bit rich I think, even a bit rich for 2 meg actually :p

We do get a few and you always look twice and sometimes mention about the possibility of them upgrading to 2MB.

Re: Anyone still on 512k BB ?
So how much do you pay for 2mb then as I pay £17.99 for 2mb and for that price I really think these days it should be 5 or 10MB atleast.

I am on 20MB but its part of a staff package.
2MB is around £18 usually £17 if paid by direct debit, but to be honest if you upgrade to 10MB from 2MB you are paying an extra £7 for up to 5 times your present speed, less than £2 per week, but if I was to upgrade I would ring up and try to get new a deal and possibly even a free router thrown in.

Re: Anyone still on 512k BB ?
Most people got the 512k service as part of one of the ntl 3 for £30 bundles so still pay roughly that price if they haven't changed anything.
As with any other discontinued service, Virgin are very reluctant to force people off it if it involves an increase to the service price in any way. This is mainly due to the arguments that arise.
