Question Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

Hi, I’m new to this forum and wondering if I could get some help please.

I recently got my free wireless router from Virgin to replace my old wired one, seems fine for the most can connect the Wii no problem wireless and wired to my pc and 360.

What I need help with is tried to download a couple of files on Emule and the little donkey in the bottom right toolbar on Vista has a blindfold (which I think means a issue with a firewall) my Vista firewall has been disable so I am assuming that this is the wireless router causing this, is there any way to disable the routers firewall?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

This probably needs port forwarding. For that first of all, you need to find which port is used by your p2p software.Lets take example of port number 12086.
1.Open the internet explorer.
2.In the address bar type in 192.168.1.1
3.user name is "virgin" and password is "password".
4.Click on Port Forwarding/Port Triggering at the left hand side.
5.Click on "add custom service".Enter the name of your p2p program.
6.In the starting and ending port, type the port number e.g. 12086.
7.In the server IP address type in your computer's ip address.
8.Click Apply and reboot the router.

This should solve your problem. All the best. :-)

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

For emule you'll need to forward a few ports on your router

TCP 4662 and 4711 and UDP 4672

Forward them to whichever is the IP of the computer you're running emule on..

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

Hi, i tried steps 1-3 and it doesn't login to go to step 4. I have copy and pasted 192.168.1.1 in IE. Does it make asny difference that i'm running vista ultimate 64?

I appologise for my lack of pc knowledge, but i'm a bit clueless to what "Kymmy" also has said.

Could someone translate this to basic terms for please.

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

The numbers I gave you will be the numbers you need to add to each port forward on techguys4's step #6

In the end you should have 3 port forwards

START - END - Destination IP - Destination port -Protocol
4662 4662 192.168.?.? 4662 TCP
4711 4711 192.168.?.? 4711 TCP
4672 4672 192.168.?.? 4672 UDP

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

Hi, thanks for all your replies, I have tried following the guide and what I see on screen differs from what is on the website.

I get to stage 10 and it says note down these numbers in case you need to revert to old settings (all my boxes are empty)

2nd I don't know my routers ip address.
3rd why has it got to be so bloody complicated (I suppose so tech guys can charge silly amounts by the hour).

At the moment I feel like going back to my jungle of wires.... lol/Cry

I have no idea how crippled the router is as its VM branded.

To get your IP open a command windows and type ipconfig /all
default gateway is router ip

It is quite crippled as it has embedded Virgin software and if you try to update it you are more likely to brick it and invalidate its warranty.

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

So how heavy would VM take it if I was to say force it back to the default Netgear firmware ?

That being the case you know I would advise anyone having to spend £40 for one of these is to go out and buy one from somewhere else

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

The IP you need isn;t the routers IP but the IP of the PC running emule

You are more likely to brick it as people have called up Netgear and been told even they are unable to get past the embedded firmware, better to buy one from PC World or Amazon if you need to change or upgrade the settings.

Re: Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Problem

You don't need the ip of the router to get access to it.

Try . Http://routerlogin.net or www.routerlogin.net
