what do you make of Wayne Routledge. Saw a lot of him in his Palace days and never thought he was good enough to make the grade at Spurs or Villa. Don't really thing he's good enough for the Championship either

To be honest, I don't think he was good enough for Palace, let along Spurs, Villa or Portsmouth. Simon Jordan got it right when he said that Routledge should have stayed at Palace for longer, as he'd probably have ended up a decent (although probably no more than that) player.

To be honest, I think Villa only bought him because we didn't do a lot transfer-wise in January. The fact that he's only made 2 first-team appearances since then pretty much tells you all you need to know, particularly when you take into account the fact that we had a tiny squad last season.

agree there. It's amazing though that he has been at Spurs for 4 years, albeit with a few loan spells and now is at Villa. He's probably already a millionaire by now and he's a rubbish footballer who would struggle in League One.

One time at Palace within the first 5 mins of the game he was one on one with the keeper and got it wrong and the keeper took the ball off him. He spent the rest of the half going no where near the ball and had to be taken off 5 mins into the second half as he wouldn't touch the ball

Media cover up?

Everybody reports:

Capello said: "I couldn't understand the crowd booing Ashley Cole after he made a mistake. It is possible for one player to make mistake. It is very important that the crowd help him and not boo him"

Here is the video:

http://www.itv.com/Sport/Football/Ne...n/default.html

Does he say Cashley Cole or
Spoiler:
Ashley Young
twice...

Media cover up or a slip of the tongue? I saw the Greece game...er I mean Kazakhstan and I don't think there was anything untoward going on, unless it was something easy to Miss.

It was a a slip up but curiously it was not mentioned by the Media. Graeme Le Saux, in the panel was smiling about the slip up but it did not get a mention

Otherwise

I read this article on the sun website and couldn't believe how stupid a supposed chief sports writer for a national newspaper can be. I agree that Barton can not and never will be a role model for kids, but how on earth are Gerrard and Terry role models? Gerrard who makes sure his surgery only happens when he's supposed to be playing for England and who hands in a transfer request to his 'boyhood club' because he's looking for the big money move to Chelsea. John Terry who is a racist thug, that spits at players whilst shouting racial abuse, has fights with doormen, urinates on dancefloors, is supposedly injured for England then plays for his club a few days later, and the list goes on. Even Carragher retired from international football at a very early age and refused to go back into the squad when asked to. Are these really role models for kids?

Does retiring from international football make you a bad role model. Didn't Carragher retire from English football because he didnt get picked (or he felt he could prolong his club career a little longer?)

Never heard of JT being a racist thug? Any examples? links? I'm not doubting you and I am genuinely interested in this.

Maybe i'm wrong about Carragher, he is a good role model in that he is loyal to Liverpool, but he did retire early from England and when asked to return and play he refused.

John Terry - Shouted racist abuse at Ledly King in a match against Spurs, there's a lot of denial about this from him, but clearly happened from looking at the footage. He shouted racist abuse at Tevez whilst spitting at him in the Champions league final, again denied but is very clear. He's been in numerous brawls, one of the major ones reported was with Jodie Morris where he punched a bouncer in the face and broke his own hand in doing so. Also urinating on a dancefloor at Wright-Phillips party.

I wont link to any of these because obviously it's not clever with this being a family forum but you can easily find what i've been talking about.

I personally dont think JT is a decent role model and to be honest I feel there are very few role models in footy. My faves have been Solskaar and Berkamp.

I was very suprised about the racist thing but isn't it a common thing (im not condoning it - i think racism is disgusting) in football where players make racist comments to each other and deny they are racist because they have black friends and team mates.

Didnt Schmiechal call Wright a black so and so? And I thought he was a pretty decent chap.

I think he did, sometimes it happens in the heat of the moment and things are said that aren't really meant, but it's happened on a few occassions with John Terry and for this sports writer to call him a role model is a ridiculous thing to say in my opinion.

I think it was more to do with the crazy phase Chelsea went through around 2005 just after Roman took over and they thought they were on a higher plane to the rest of us - they were just about out of control and appeared to act as if the rules didn't apply to them, like when Jose was using that headset when he was up in the stand and hide in a kit bag etc

As for role models, as much as it pains me to say this, I've always admired the professionalism of Thierry Henry.

Re: Football : Season 08/09

I heard the things about Terry, before he broke into the Chelsea team he had that incidident in the club in London where he punched the bouncer and they almost sold him there and then.

Very few footballers are good role models

Redknapp rejects Newcastle offer

Quote:
"I have a job to do to take this club forward, and to walk away would not have been the right thing to do," said Redknapp.

"I'm happy here, people treat me well and I felt a loyalty to the club and the fans."
Not that much loyalty though, eh Harry.
