I am at work atm so I dont know the model number sorry I am just confused as to what is causing the problem, as I said earlier I have left it on installing today, so when I get home @ 9pm see what the status is

Just spoke to my sister and she said its got finishing install and the installation has just froze anyone got any ideas?

if i was you i would get some dvd's not cheap ones then download a copy of vista and then try that if that works then you will know it is the disc, but this is a strange problem as you say xp installs fine but if crashes when installing vista got me stumped id try a new vista disc if possible.

update for some unknown reason a very old copy of vista works but its causing me hassle but atleast it installed took all night tho

All i can say is, Vista is a nightmare full stop. Btw Darth I am having the same probs installing Vista. It either freezes, or it took seven hours to eventaully install. Really considering if i can get a refund by taking it back hahaha.
Even at work the network manager refuses to have anything to do with it, I quote "it burns me it burms me" he shouts if he looks at a picture of vista
Once it was up and running I soon wanted Xp Pro back on. Or linux on my works pc, that still works a dream )))))

I am dam sure gonna get it up and running smooth it took this long Vista is staying on my PC until I am that annoyed I might just get a laptop lol.

Glad you finally got it sorted. I've never had problems with that ever, even for my customers... but i only use IDE optical drives and not SATA, which is where i still think the problem is tbh.
