Wired Vs Wireless

I'm new to this bit, but from reading here and elsewhere there appear to be quite a few problems with wireless routers at the moment.

Now that we've got our old PC up & running again (it's amazing what the threat of a 9lb lump hammer will do to get a PC working!). The wife & kids obviously want both online.

The basic question is -
As I've got both towers close together (i.e. in the same room), would it be better to have a wired router from our VM modem? My line of thinking on this, is that the network will be protected and that speeds woud not drop as much as through a wireless router?!?(please tell me if I'm way off on that one!).

From what I've read routers are much of a muchness - I'm looking at going through our local Maplin as opposed to the (something or other)World.

Cheers - Woolly

Re: Wired Vs Wireless

In that situation I'd buy a wireless router with 4 wired ports, use the wired bit for your two towers but still have the capability of wireless if in the future you wish to buy a lapop/wifi device/games console)

Just bought myself a WRT624 netgear from ebay (refurbished for £17.99 (21.98 delivered)) and found that really easy to set-up/configure and now have the reliability of a wired system for gaming on and I'm able to laze around in bed or on the sofa browsing on my laptop..

Re: Wired Vs Wireless

Hi, if your going to keep them side by side or not too far apart and have no need for wireless in the future then keep it all wired but if you do go wireless just make sure you secure the wireless side of it otherwise any tom, dick n harry can use and abuse your network without you even knowing.
