Re: Help With PC Build

do you have another pc you can use ?
if yes, put the new hard drive in the second PC as a slave.(make sure you set the jumpers to slave).
then load your OS on to the slave/new drive.
then reset the jumpers to master or single drive.
then put the new hard drive back in to the new build pc and restart.
good luck mate and take your time.

Re: Help With PC Build

Same mobo as me. It should Auto load from the OS cd . Is it a sata optical drive? if so you have not put it on the asus sata controller (orange and white) as these are hard drives only

I can not see a parts list on this thread?

Re: Help With PC Build

Sorry, here is a parts list (not the freezer fan is not installed).

Yes it is a SATA optical drive. Nothing on my motherboard has gone into the orange and white sata controllers. My HHD and CD/DVD go into the red sockets-does it matter which red socket?

you have installed a fan ?

go into bios and make sure the sata controllers are set to IDE. If you can not get it to access the cd steal the optical drive out of this pc and try that as it will be an IDE drive . I have had problems on occassion installed windows from sata drives

looking at your mother board ASUS P5Q Pro you will not have an ide connection on your new hard drive.
so the old pc idea will not work.
you can still do it using a SATA to USB hard drive caddie but thats just going to cost you more money

Re: Help With PC Build

How do i check if the sata controllers are set to ISE?

The CD player in my computer (one am on now) doesn't read DVDs, it plays them but won't show data on them.

Could it be the Vista Disc (its a copy [legal btw]).
